Mythic Championship VII Decklist Reveal First Reaction

Tomorrow night we will be doing an Aetherhub Power Panel discussion to preview the tournament in much more detail, but for now enjoy this quick overview of the interesting decks and storylines that jump out right away.

 As soon as I saw this picture from Frank Karstens official meta game breakdown (find that here), my first thought was "wow thats a heck of a lot better than last time." Going from a Meta where one deck was around 70% of the field to another where the top deck is 18% of the field is a huge change for the better.

That said, there was also not too many surprises. From what I heard going into it, Jeskai Fires was considered by many to be the deck to beat, with the sacrifice decks hot on its heals. Golgari Adventures had also remained strong after the ban, and has had really solid showings in the Aetherhub community tournaments the last few weekends, including a win by TheNerdySteve two weeks ago. One quick thing of note with the top 4 decks is that although Jeskai Fires has the most total players, Jund Sacrifice has the most MPL'ers. Do they know something the rest of the field doesn't?? That remains to be seen.

Izzet flash is a bit of a surprise coming in 5th, but not a major one. This deck really came onto the scene a few weeks ago and has been growining in popularity ever since. With 2 more players running it then simic, it must have really impressed in testing. 

The big fall from grace is Temur Reclamation. For the $75,000 Twitch Rivals tournament that was hosted right after the Oko ban, Temur Reclamation was actually the 2nd most played deck, however performed pretty terrribly in the tournament with Seth Manfield being the only player to make day two with it. It seems like most players did not find ways to tweak the deck, and moved off of it for something else. That said however, popular streamer Mogwai is playing a version of this deck that he is extremely confident in, and plays with a little more tempo than the Twitch Rivals versions. Nothing too crazy here honestly. I am a little dissapointed there isn't a Kethis combo type deck that was held secret untill this list came out, however with this amount of total diversity I can't really complain. The Niv Mizzet Reborn fires decks are certainly cool, but once you have seen one Fires deck you kind of know what you are going to expect from all the other ones. Totally contradicting that however is the Rakdos Fires deck, which seems to be by Jankiest brew in the tournament. I will have to play that after writing this to give a full opinion later, but it looks pretty sweet. Frank does a great job in the official meta game breakdown of describing it, so check that out.

Importantly, we have to highlight our guy Alexander Steyer (AKA Sorquixe), a Team Aether member playing in the tournament. He said he was a little uncertain about the final 75, but lets hope he tweaked it just right and he goes out and crushes it!

 Lastly, It wouldn't be a reaction article without checking out what Stan Cifka was playing. Lets be honest, everybody was hoping he would break the format yet again like he has so many times during 2019. Although not playing the top deck, he didn't do anything too crazy this time around, opting for a version of Golgari Sacrifice that is very similar to Crokeyz version and im sure alot of the others.
