Top Standard Decks - May 2024

Dust off your deck and saddle up, partner – Outlaws of Thunder Junction is here, and the meta's about to get a whole lot wilder! These outlaws bring new tricks and tougher hides, shaking up the established order. Adapt fast or get left in the dust, 'cause only the sharpest gunslingers will survive this showdown. The frontier of MTG just got a lot more treacherous, and the prize for survival is a whole new meta ripe for the taking.

Western roleplaying aside, we do have some new picks, albeit very few, as the new set melts into the competitive pool of Standard MTG just two weeks after release. Which got in? Who got the biggest chance in the spotlight? Well, take a look at yourself amigo.

Standard Tournament Meta - Top 8 Decks

Dimir Aggro, while always a welcome entry in the top eight, seldom makes it to the top. Second for sure, a lot of times even. But to the grand top? Now that's an even rarer sight to see (yes, rare, NOT never). Oddly enough, it took the same rating as last month's Esper Raffine down to the second decimal, with the rest of the entries, such as Boros Convoke, Temuro Control, and 5-Color Domain, just kind of pushed down the ladder. Bant Toxic, which has been lurking just outside the ranking since it was kicked out, managed to come back as dead last, with at least 4.09% of the meta.

Standard MTG Arena: Best of Three - Top 8 Decks

The slightly different flavor of Dimir keeps more or less the same performance range as usual, though ousted a bit by a single spot for this month. You know, the typical Esper switcheroo. Double Domain entries come back once again after just a single month of rest, with the "lower-ranked" one actually managing to kick that one (supposedly) consistent Azorius Control entry just a bit outside the top eight. The rest are the same, more or less, though we do get a triple 3.89% meta tie between 5-Color, Golgari, and Mono Red.

At the Bo1 fighting theater, we also have a double-entry fever, the direct opposite of Domain decks where sideboards are not preset: the undying Mono Red. Shocker, I know. But I guess the more impressive feat here is how a slipjack Naya deck managed to slither from within the ranks (at almost dead middle, even). Mono Blue makes a slow return after more than two months of being kicked outside its, well... domain. Unfortunately, this resulted in Golgari being kicked out of the list for the first time since it reemerged during the release of Wilds of Eldraine. Another sad note is the complete disappearance of Boros Angels, bidding its permanent farewell from the entire list just a month after it suddenly popped in seventh place.
