Description

Introduction

This is a budget mono red aggro deck that has no rares or mythic rares in it. The deck sports some of the great uncommons of the Wilds of Eldraine set, such as Embereth Veteranimage, Monstrous Rageimage, and Witchstalker Frenzyimage. The deck has also some of the best red one mana creatures available, such as Monastery Swiftspearimage and Phoenix Chickimage.

The deck can actually be pretty dangerous, being able to kill the opponent on turn 3, if you draw a great hand and the opponent has no cheap interaction spells in their hand.

Because of the inclusion of Witchstalker Frenzyimage in the deck, even Sheoldred, the Apocalypseimage may not be a threat to this deck.

The deck also has 4 Furnace Punisherimages, which makes it potentially dangerous against decks with very few basic lands, such as Esper Control, Esper Legends, and Esper Midrange.

Format

  • The deck is for the Standard format, as of September 2023, with Wilds of Eldraine being the last legal set.
  • The deck should perform well in both Bo1 and Bo3 matches (as much as a non-rare deck can do).
  • The deck is suitable for quickly grinding a large number of wins in the Arena ladder.

This is my own brew.

Strategy

The deck is pretty straightforward to play and it has no combos in it. You just play your cards and hope to overpower the opponent. If it does not work out, you just try again in the next game.

The only thing that requires attention is that you cannot have two Role tokens on a single creature, which means that you usually don't want to play 2 Monstrous Rageimages on the same creature.

How to Kill Opponent on Turn 3

The fastest way to kill an opponent (who has no cheap interaction spells in hand) is to play as follows:

  • T1: Kumano Faces Kakkazan (= 1 damage)
  • T2: Monastery Swiftspear #1 + Monstrous Rage (on Monastery Swiftspear #1) (= MS #1 hits for 6 damage)
  • T3: Monastery Swiftspear #2 + Monstrous Rage (on Monastery Swiftspear #2) + Play with Fire (= MS #1 hits for 5 damage + MS #2 hits for 6 damage + EoK hits for 2 damage + Play with Fire deals 2 damage = total of 15 damage)

That's 22 points of damage in 3 turns. However, it is very rare that you draw this exact hand and also that the opponent does not do anything on their turns. But theoretically, it's at least possible.
