Deck Description
I used to play this deck a few sets ago and found it while cleaning up my decklists in game. Decided to update the list a bit and have been doing pretty well with it in Constructed Event and regular old Play mode. It is definitely Jank (as if that wasn't obvious). Even if you only get to Banefire
someone for 50+ or cast a 20/20 Hydroid Krasis
against mono red once, I still think this deck is worth playing.
The curve is spread out enough to give you a good chance of flipping Azor's Gateway // Sanctum of the Sun
early. Remember that lands count as 0 CMC so you don't necessarily have to exile a Liliana, Dreadhorde General
under it to get the flip to happen. The Fountain of Renewal
s do a good job of keeping you alive and/or pumping up your health totals so you can get a giant Banefire off.
Karn, Scion of Urza
helps you dig through your deck faster and also is a pretty good meat shield.
Liliana, Dreadhorde General is just there as an alternate wincon in case things go really badly.
I threw in the Field of Ruin
s just to blow up Field of the Dead
and the opponent's Field of Ruins before Azor's Gateway // Sanctum of the Sun flips.
The deck is super weak to Vraska, Golgari Queen
and of course Assassin's Trophy
(both of which are gaining some traction because of Field of the Dead and Teferi, Time Raveler
.

Random Thoughts
I was thinking of including Karn, the Great Creator
just to have backup copies of Azor's Gateway // Sanctum of the Sun, Chromatic Lantern
, or just some utility Artifact that might be helpful given the current game state. If anyone gives him a try, let me know. I might get around to testing him out this weekend.
