Goal: Play Marchesa to become Monarch for the draw advantage and accumulate a large enough board/use politics to have monarch on each endstep. Mardu is an extremely strong color combination, however it lacks draw and land production. With the use of mana rocks and Sword of the Animist in the early game, as well as monarch, both of these problems are solved. This deck is a Legendary Tribal tempo attrition deck, the main win condition is either to race your opponents on board in order to eventually kill them, or to outlast them and eventually be unable to lose.

Win conditions: Primevals' Glorious Rebirth, Gideon of the Trials, Torment of Hailfire, Twilight Prophet, Overall Attrition.

Good Matchups: Board Based Aggressive Decks, Non-Reanimator Value Decks, Midrange-Early Control Decks.

Bad Matchups: Combo Reanimator Decks, Burn Decks, Blue Control Decks, Combo OTK Decks.

Changelog: [- Emrakul, the Promised End: Too slow, not quite strong enough when reanimated, bad against most non combo decks.] [- Burnished Hart: Too slow, low impact, and most of the time only used when desperate. Not strong enough for 6 mana.] [ - Tyrant's Familiar: Too slow, the commander is not important enough to commit to keeping it on the field. Not strong enough by itself.] [- Lightning Greaves: Attacking oponents is not necessary in the deck and often will just make you a threat, and to regain monarch all you need is marchesa and the assassins which have haste already. Shroud is mostly irrelevant.] [ - Warstorm Surge: Too slow, 6 mana to play an enchantment with no immediate effect as well as no protection for itself is often disastrous.]
