Alright so the Dire Fleet Hoarder and the Captain Lannery are there to get you the extra mana that you need for casting your Ravager or Dragon God one turn earlier. Tomebound Lich and Rix Maadi can cycle thru the extra steam vents/sulfur falls that you don't need or just even fetch for a more important card to give you better value this or next turn. Having more of a field to defend than trying to control the board gives you a better chance of defending dragon god when it does come out; alot of times you don't have anything on the field to protect the god with so he usually dies quicker than usual. Finale of Revelation for the games that can drag out long, yes this card is a beast when used for more than 10 (Against Esper and other Grixis Decks). Some other cards are just put in here because of the Bolas theme, however they mesh well. Deathtouch gives you the resilience that you need to last longer, of course you can't block the flyers but it should do the trick.
I do find that Rix Maadi tends to be the card discarded, when Tomebound triggers or if you Chart of course the other way. There could be a better alternative for the four Rix's.
