Motivation
I got annoyed with cat/oven, reefs, and agents. So I decided to tweak my Izzet fairy tale deck a little bit and lean more into the fairie aspect. We still want to draw a bunch of cards and summon Faerie tokens. But now are also splashing white for Hushbringer
to get rid of the annoying ETB and death triggers.
Threats
The core of the deck are Improbable Alliance
, Hushbringer, and Irencrag Pyromancer
. They pump out tokens, prevent effects and dish out damage. Icon of Ancestry
adds a little more beef to our creatures. Saves them also from Ethereal Absolution
, which I strangely have seen more often in the recent weeks.
Threat Enabling
Like the original fairy tyle deck this deck relies on card draw to enable threats and get to them. With our second draw each turn, we can pump our Faerie Vandal
, create tokens with Improable Alliance, or deal damage with the Irencrag Pyromancer. That means there are a lot of draw effects to be found, like Opt
, Omen of the Sea
, The Royal Scions
, and Bag of Holding
. Bag of Holding especially works surprisingly well, being a "draw a card" on its first turn for three mana and two in eahc following turn, while also giving the option to get your discarded card back (not only those discarded with Bag of Holding!)
Interaction
Aside form the Irencrag Pyromancer the deck is quite light in interaction with the opponent's board. Hushbringer is the indirect one disabling the pesky effects running around in the format at the moment. Lava Coil
deals the crutial four damage and exiles, Brazen Borrower
bounces. And as a fallback we have Fae of Wishes
that can retrieve from our wishboard. With Icon of Ancestry the fae has by itself an imressive 2/5 body for a two mana flyer.
