Learn more Download For WindowsI've wanted to build around Kykar, Wind's Fury for a while I've played against a storm EDH deck that uses Kykar as the commander and it seemed fun. I've played the deck a little, well five games to be precise, it performs nicely as long as you draw what you want. Most of the deck just tilts the opponent into giving up. For example, I had a game against Muxus, who tried to Ironcrag him in and faced a Tale's End and immediately scooped. That pretty much is what the deck wants to do.
The deck wants to counter the commander and early threats, whilst digging through with Tome of the Guildpact and scrying with the various planes walkers to find the next answer. Deafening Clarion feels pretty bad since it kills Kykar and the tokens, but if you have it on turn three it can feel pretty good just to try to free the board state ready to slam Kykar the turn after. I was going to add a Thassa's Oracle or Jace, Weilder of Mysteries, just for a different win condition and I think they can easily replace the Clarion. Since there is a lot of card draw with the Tome and the Whirlwind of Thought but that's why I added the clear the mind, since if the deck is performing well at that point the opponent is going to be pretty mad if they know they'll have to face it again. There is probably an arguement to be made to add something that can double a planeswalker or an enchantment like Mythos of Illuna, since it can copy Kykar and make the board state more annoying as well. But I think this deck is probably good enough in a few match ups that changing might be more harmful, unless it is for something that can enable a different win condition.
When it doubt, Jank it out.
