Description

Haven't played Magic in about two years and sorely lacking in cards, but at least this old Kefnet control list with a few updates still seems to perform well, even in historic. I'm a little behind on the meta so I might be updating this list as I play more.

image

Kefnet is a slightly weird build-around since it discourages creatures (so no Murderous Riderimage) and limited use of powerful planeswalkers or sagas. But also, unlike the typical draw-go control, Kefnet asks us to be proactive and have spells we want to cast on our own turn, yet makes them cheaper in exchange. This is acceptable.

In total, we run 15 cards that can be made cheaper by Kefnet and we might-could cast them on our own turn, but they of course work well enough on their own and on our opponent's turn that we don't need to.

Two power-house control cards when they were in standard, they still work in historic. Thought Erasureimage has a slight upside to Thoughtseizeimage in that the surveil allows us an extra draw, essentially, and so it still does something in the late-game even if our opponent's hand is already empty.

We have four ways of ending the game: Smorc with Keffer, Amass with either the God-Eternals or Commence the Endgameimage, or put out Lilly and start plussing with The Eldest Rebornimage to get her back if she dies.

Match-ups

Angels, aggro, swarm, generally

Bishop of Wingsimage, meet Massacre Girlimage. Our girl will garuntee a board wipe if the Bishop is out and at least one angel dies since her ability will go off, he'll make a 1/1, and then her ability will repeat and kill the 1/1 and repeat again. She's just really good against any sort of swarm, mostly, but may take some effort to really pop off. An extra Ritual of Sootimage would probably be ideal if this is a large part of the meta, but I only own one.

Aether Gustimage is great, but this one is probably self-explanatory.

Control

Tyrant's Scornimage out, in comes

Underworld Dreamsimage probably underperforms in a Bolas/Ugin match-up, so Negateimage instead of that. Enter the God-Eternalsimage is actually a near-perfect response to Nicol Bolas, the Ravenger, though. Otherwise, maybe cut two God-Eternals for Negateimages.
