by Doran, the Siege Tower
FACT: this card makes high toughness matter. And to make things even spicier is the fact it can ensure your defenders can attack: that was always a bit problematic with Doran since defenders and high toughness go hand in hand. Here, you essentially have a built-in Wakestone Gargoyle as a bonus to help you out! Doran decks can be outright overpowered if you have the capital to get the jank cards. But I am on a budget and I like a challenge. So, here is my best attempt at a Doran deck.
A majority of decks I have analyzed are primarily Treefolk tribal. I wanted something different. While I was looking for cards to fill my collection, I found an Overgrown Estate at a flea market in my area that sells MTG cards for an excellent price. According to a lot - and I mean a lot - of sites and videos, Overgrown Estate is considered one of the WORST cards printed. Who in their right mind would want to sacrifice a land! Even if it did give you 3 life, 99 out of 100 MTG players would think you were just plain STUPID! Well, I am that one person, and as I said before - I like a challenge.
There are a few sweet treat synergies in this deck that I would like to point out that would turn Overgrown Estate into a decent card, of course with Doran alongside for the ride;
Need I say more? He takes your OPPONENTS LANDS and gives them to me, and then I sac them for value. And how does he do it? As his <EXPLETIVE> Cumulative Upkeep. The longer he's around, the more age counters he gets, and the more of my opponents lands I get to play with. Yeah, buddy. Oh yeah, and I'm gonna pitch them lands to Overgrown Estate or to The Gitrog Monster.
Both of these cards give extra! Lotus Cobra combined with Herald of Leshrac can potentially give you up to FOUR (4) mana in one turn. And the same can go with Zendikar's Roil, albeit its potentially 2x 2/2 Green Elemental creature tokens instead!
It can not go without saying that you need to bring back lands that you sac to Overgrown Estate and The Gitrog Monster. The lands you take from opponents? Well, their screwed. Here are the cards to help regenerate your lands:
I have no infinite or arbitrarily large combo win cons in this deck. Why? Because if you play Mass Land Destruction AND combos, you will bring so much hate.
The idea with this deck is:
Please enjoy the deck, and as always leave comments / suggestions. Enjoy!!
