After plenty more testing, I believe I found a good balance and a few changes to help out with the problem matches. UW control, thanks to it's infinite board wipes, infinite counters, and mass of exile spells and access to countless Planeswalkers which do all that plus draw cards or nulify damage, is still an issue, but really in those matches it's about playing first typically. For UW Control, Duress
, Binding Negotiations, Negate
, and Disdainful Stroke
all need to come in pretty much. Which makes boarding a difficult process for them.
But the biggest changes were to deal with the new Jeskai or Izzet Artifact Sythesizer deck as well as Boros Tokens. The Artifact decks fully rely upon their Simulacrum Sythesizer so our Duress, Binding Negotiations, and thew new addition of The Stone Brain
will help take care of that. When in Jeskai they do have a way to recur their yard, so make sure to keep in your creatures or even bring in your Unlicensed Hearse
to deal with it. I did consider Torpor Orb
, but that does shut off our Tinybones Joins Up
which is a great constant source of damage and crimes and just removing the card from their hand, yard, and library is a better option.
For Boros Tokens, since we have still have access to Plaza of Heroes
, I made an addition to the sideboard and removed another boardwipe/creature. Between Plaza and Magda, the Hoardmaster
we can make white mana to cast Kambal, Profiteering Mayor
and straight profit from their tokens. Boros isn't typically running multiple token sources each turn and usually will have spent a lot of resources removing other legendary creatures from our board.
A catchall addition for both tokens and artifacts is Brotherhood's End
in place of one Path of Peril
.
Mainboard changes are few. Lazav, Familiar Stranger
is added to help with crimes and beefing him up against creature decks. Any crime will net him a +1/+1 counter, exile a creature from a yard, and take on that creature for the turn.
In hopes of dealing with unruly artifacts or a board of tokens or mono red if given enough time and treasures, Invasion of Fiora // Marchesa, Resolute Monarch
is our mainboard wipe to avoid our legendaries and give us some card draw and another legendary on it's flip side.
