While being an aristocrats (or sacrifice) deck, this list packs lot of card advantage (most of the cards either filter with scry, draw cards or reuse the graveyard) and ton of incidental damage (which is the main win condition).
It is difficult to whiff with CoCo due the 31 creatures (some of them also removal, hand disruption or lands).
The sideboard may be improved to add some Leyline of the Void to help against Kethis combo, Simic Paradox combo,... but for now it is what it is, with some more disruption to deal with combos, Grafdigger's Cage, or specially opposing Leyline of the Void, which shuts down the Blood Artist and almost half of the deck
Many utility lands thanks to be a 2 color deck, including Blast Zone to deal with main deck Grafdigger's Cage and Authority of the Consuls, Malakir Rebirth to protect key pieces (or to force through letal incidental damage on sac fodder), and Agadeem's Awakening to reuse them
Key interactions:
- Priest of Forgotten Gods and Weaponcraft Enthusiast is a two card combo. Most of the time you want the three bodies, so you end up with a creature after the priest activation to block or to sac the turn after. Keep one of the tokens to fill the graveyard for the Woe Strider or Agadeem's Awakening
- Garruk's Harbinger and Glint-Sleeve Siphoner are alternative ways to push through damage and gain card advantage. The black hexproof come in handy in the sultai matchup, and menace can help to deal some chip damage. And they can be sac in a pinch.
- Malakir Rebirth on a Reclamation Sage makes her destroy another enchantment/artifact, and also helps against the claim the first born. Cast it on the target of the claim and, after it dies, comes back under the owner. But it is also a handy first turn tapland if needed.
- Fatal Push and Assassin's Trophy can be swapped or played both depending on the matchup, specially on games 2 and 3, if you expect planeswalkers or graveyard hate. Fatal push is better against auras and burn, both against gruul and monoblack, trophy against sultai, 4c and control (Yasharn is tough without proper removal).
- Keep in mind the sequencing of the turn to cast the CoCo to maximize the effect. You won't will to use it to just add some blockers, but insted to prepare the next attack, the next sacrifice,... Shout out to Brain Maggot at instant speed after draw step. Also, although they are expensive and valuable, all the creatures can feed the priest, the strider or Yahenni in a pinch, specially if you are looking to feed the priest to kill something or if there is at least a blood artist in play
The best matchups for me are Goblins (either you can kill him faster or clean the board - Blood Artist facing an opposing skirk prospector is sweet), sultai (some how I usually outvalue them, and the black hexproof and indestructibility come in handy), UW control (as the sultai matchup, they have to answer every threat, and wrath effects are a treat with a Blood Artist and some random creatures) and auras (as long as you can keep a priest active). The worst are grixis control (too much disruption in all shapes to keep up), esper control, and one specially tough (though very winnable) is the sac mirror, with sooo many triggers to take into account on both sides
Hope you like it. Feel free to send me a note if you use it or if you want to know why or why not to include a card
Good luck!
Edit: added 3 Leyline of the Void to the sideboard to improve the combo matchups with mox amber and Emry, and have a better shot against Rakdos Arcanist and other sacrifice
Update after Historic Anthology 4 and Uro ban: with no Uro in sight there is no need for the Scooze in the mainboard, and after the anthology I was eager to include some of the new cards, both from Kaldheim and the anthology. Maindeck, there is an improvement in the mana base in the form of the Golgari pathways, so we only have the MDFC tapped (and maybe the castle) after turn 3. Speaking of which, the blinkmoth nexus is a great addition both on offense, pinging some damage here and there, on defense, blocking some of the new angelic trendy creatures, and specially on combo, as we can squeeze another creature in the mana base as an untapped land. No Uro also means less Sultai, so less riders to kill walkers and more fatal push to kill CMC3 creatures. Also, the elvish visionary come in handy to be even grindier. In the sideboard, masked vandal for those pesky indestructible enchantment gods from theros, soul shatter for the Ulamogs and Ugins of the world, and extinction event for the tribal decks that are arising.
