11-2-21 UPDATE
If you're into esper, try out this list from Poppa_Capp. It took 2nd in an MTG Melee tournament. I've been having a great time agianst mono-white, mono-green, and the other tier 2 decks. Sideboard might need some help to fight izzet.
I swapped out one hermit, shadow, and 'no way out' for three Skyclave Shade
to just try to speed up your clock on izzet turns. We have enough removal to get the eggs out of the way, and they don't have ways to exile stuff from your yard. I'm 20-8 in Bo3 Standard Events right now. Great deck. I see the Sedgemoor Witch and Lier synergy decks picking up steam, and as I've been saying Vanishing Verse
is just the best friggin control card we have right now. Poppa_Capp had the discipline to leave every other white card at home and it paid off. Bravo!
Testing Now - Vanishing Verse feels like the answer to Old Growth Troll and Unnatural Growth
. We have 5 draw spells and 2 The Celestus
to find the proper answers and loot away irrelevant cards. We can use Liesa, The Forgotten Angel to stablize or close a game. I've been trying out a Jeskai list, but Doomskar
and Goldspan Dragon
Just doesn't get there vs mono green. This should still get there over mono white, but we may not have enough countermagic to keep up with izzet turns lists with Galvanic Iteration
. Two Soul Shatter
should help against Goldspan Dragon epiphany strategies and some of the mono black stuff that is taking advantage of warded creatures like Graveyard Tresspasser.
The galvanic epiphany lists are tough without a threat that can get underneath the 8 mana they need to iterate an epiphany. Liesa, The Forgotten Angel Dodges most red removal, but is still susceptible to bounce spells. I wonder if Westgate Reagent is viable in the finisher slot? He closes out the game faster than Goldspan, and if you're just interested in protecting your threat, the discard ward could be nice. Doesn't help against the Aggro lists, though. Let's see how we fare this week.
