Who says gaining life is bad? Gain life and earn yourself a Serra Angel
farm with Resplendent Angel, then go ahead and turn all of that lifegain into a resource using Command the Dreadhorde, resummoning full graveyards and healing back to full. The deck is designed to heal past aggro until a winning combo sticks or to bash through control/Dreadscape before they get their engines rolling. I've had good success against monored varieties, Dreadscape, and all manner of Reanimator lists. The matchup I still am hoping to test more is Vamps!
The deck plays relatively straightforward. Drop an early Ajani's Welcome
and follow it up with either early aggression in Ajani's Pridemate
or a combo setup with Bishop of Wings.
Resplendent Angel is our hero, pumping out 4/4 fliers and overwhelming our opponents. Because its proc requires that you gain 5 life over the course of your turn, be sure to count out and see how best to reach there.
Our planeswalker fleet synergizes with Interplanar Beacon
to help get us that extra +1 life we need to pair with Bishop of Wings, but they also serve as our versatility. Gideon Blackblade
can give lifelink to our other creatures while being himself a big bopper boi. Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord
provides all of our creatures with lifelink, generates a useful lifegain ping, and also offers strategic reanimation with his excellent minus ability. Jace, Wielder of Mysteries
is a draw tool that has the added benefit of dumping our opponent's tools into the graveyard for us to Command. Ajani, Strength of the Pride
helps give us more board tools with his Pridemate ability and also serves as a boardwipe spell.
When sideboarding, I suggest dropping Jace for Narset when her ability is more impactful or against quick opponents who you don't have time to slowly mill/draw against. Cut Ajani when a boardwipe is not significant.
