I just really wanted to play with Burning-Rune Demon
and Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire
, so it's called Axe Gang. The main way I use Burning-Rune Demon is to search up Koma, Cosmos Serpent
and a reanimator (a.k.a. Nullpriest of Oblivion
) since the demon puts whatever card you don't get into the graveyard. I really like how it makes sure that I consistently find my game-ender while being a threat itself. I started off with 4 Varragoth, but found out that it really isn't the kind of card you're trying to play on turn 3 and activate on 4. I originally had just 2 Nullpriests, but I'm considering going all the way up to 4 because it's been so good. Your opponent rarely keeps back 2 blockers for it, so casting it on turn 2 consistently gains me 8+ life throughout the game. That or it pulls removal from the opponent before you cast better threats. The rest of the deck is just what I've found to be good control until you hit turn 6 with Burning-Rune Demon. The only thing I'm not totally convinced of is the snow package for Blood on the Snow
. But I haven't really run into much color problems, and the reanimating part of the wrath is very advantageous when running priest and Varragoth.
The sideboard is still a work in progress, and it would probably need to change if I played it on the ranked ladder.
