Description

A very fun to play variant on Nexus of Fateimage. Using some elemental synergy with Risen Reefimage as our prime source of ramp in place of Wilderness Reclamationimage, we are much less vulnerable to Teferi, Time Ravelerimage.

Tamiyo, Collector of Tales is the all-star of this deck, getting her down early to self-mill and look for Risen Reef or Nissa, Who Shakes the Worldimage (Root Snareimage if you're on the back foot) is vitally important so that there are just two Nexus of Fate's and a couple other cards in your library for the endgame.

The deck has just enough defence in a few chunky creatures and Root Snare that you never really want to look for Nexus with Tamiyo. Go for the ones you have higher chances of hitting to allow you to survive until you can get Nexus reliably.

In regards to side boarding, the River's Rebukeimage and extra Prison Realmimage are there for Midrange, with the Disdainful Stroke likely being played. I didn't want to stress the manabase or kill too many of our own creatures for Time Wipeimage/Cleansing Novaimage. If we're at the stage of closing the game out, River's Rebuke is a total bomb. Otherwise it should buy you a turn or two at least.

We have little Teferi and Negate if we suspect counterspells and planeswalkers. Grafdigger's Cageimage completely shuts off Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlordimage, Command the Dreadhordeimage, and Archlight Phoenix; all of which are seeing decent play.

Overall, we are somewhat weak to early hand disruption an face damage so watch out. Veil of Summerimage covers one of those nicely and since mono-red isn't very active at the moment, Omnath, Locus of the Roilimage's ETB is also covered by Veil.

The manabase for this deck is quite exciting with all the options at the moment. Considering our use of white cards in the sideboard as early plays, 9 is a good number for this I think. Blast Zone is an essential sweeper in the midrange matchups where lots of two or three-drops get played. The new scry land is wonderful as we hope to have a good number coming in from the library via Risen Reef. Apart from that, Forests are maximised for Nissa and since we have such a variety of lands which we hope to get out quickly, it seems like the ideal deck for Field of the Deadimage to give us free blocker tokens!

Cards I'm undecided about are Drawn from Dreamsimage Vs Chemister's Insightimage. Drawn from Dreams (aka Fish) is clearly more powerful and a better top deck. However, you may well have Chemister's as an eighth card in hand a lot of the time if Tamiyo mills it. I've gone with Fish because of it's ability to get you back in the game faster than Chemister's if you're behind and need your draws to be live.

Additionally, a third Cavalier of Thorns instead of Cavalier of Gales might be an upgrade as you could more reliably search for Thorns with Tamiyo with more copies. I'm unsure yet where the balance lies between the hand smoothing of Gales and self-mill from Thorns, both very relevant abilities for this deck.
