MTG Marvel Leaks Surface On Facebook Marketplace

It's been quite a while now since Hasbro/WOTC announced that we'd be getting an MTG Marvel crossover in 2025. Now, just a week or two before we'd have gotten our first look at official MTG Marvel cards, we've had a leak, that was posted on Facebook Marketplace of all places. Today, I'll be covering everything we know so far, reviewing the cards, and giving you the what's what on why they appear real. So, let's jump in.

MTG Marvel Leaks

The original post has been taken down, but apparently, someone posted a whole lot of MTG Marvel Secret Lair cards for sale on Facebook Marketplace for around $30 each. Here is the image from the original post:

These seem like they are 100% real (and likely stolen), and we'll explain why in just a second. However, before we do, let's take a closer look at the cards.

Black Panther, Wakandan King

Black Panther, Wakandan King {G}{W}

Legendary Creature - Human Noble Hero (M)

First strike

Survey the Realm - Whenever Black Panther or another creature you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target land you control.

Mine Vibranium - {3}: Move all +1/+1 counters from target land you control onto target creature. If one or more +1/+1 counters are moved this way, you gain that much life and draw a card.

Artist: Tyler Jacobson

Breakdown

The black panther card puts +1/+1 counters on your lands and then later, for three mana, allows you to move them onto a creature. I'm not crazy about the ability from a gameplay perspective, but from a lore point of view, it's pretty sweet. There is vibranium scattered on Wakanda; these abilities represent seeking it out (Survey the Realm), finding it, marking it, and mining it (Mine Vibranium), eventually strengthening your creatures.

Iron Man, Titan of Innovation

Legendary Artifact Creature - Human Hero (M)

Flying, haste

Genius Industrialist - Whenever Iron Man attacks, create a Treasure token, then you may sacrifice a noncreature artifact. If you do, search your library for an artifact card with mana value equal to 1 plus the sacrificed artifact's mana value, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

Breakdown

Iron Man is like a Birthing Podimage for artifacts and is going to be very powerful, I think. I like that he makes a treasure (which has a CMC of zero) that can get the ball rolling on tutoring out artifacts. You sac a treasure and go find a Sol Ringimage, for example. Granted, they enter tapped, but putting artifacts directly into play is quite good.

This card/ability is also on point for Iron Man's lore. Iron Man is an inventor and innovator and has had to take whatever is on and make something good. And this ability (trade whatever you've got in play for something better) feels right on point to me. I also like that they included "artifact" in the creature type.

Wolverine, Best There Is

wolverine, best there is

Transcription:

Wolverine, Best There Is {1}{R}{G}

Legendary Creature - Mutant Berserker Hero

Unrivaled Lethality - Double all damage Wolverine would deal.

At the beginning of each end step, if Wolverine dealt damage to another creature this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on him.

{1}{G}: Regenerate Wolverine. (The next time he would be destroyed this turn, instead tap him, remove him from combat, and heal all damage on him)

Artist: Victor Adame Minguez

Breakdown

It makes sense for Wolverine to hit hard and be able to regenerate himself, and both things are present here. The "Unrivaled Lethality" ability literally doubles all damage he would deal. Interestingly, they worded this the way they did instead of just giving him double strike, but I'm not complaining.

As mentioned, regenerate makes perfect sense, and I would have been disappointed if they had left it off. Then there is the "if Wolverine dealt damage to another creature this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on him." part. From a gameplay perspective, this is good. From a lore POV, I'm not sure. Wolverine doesn't really get stronger like that, but perhaps it's a nod to his berserker style in the comics. Comment below and let me know what you think.

Captain America, First Avenger

Captain America, First Avenger

Captain America, First Avenger {R}{W}{U}

Legendary Creature - Human Soldier Hero (M)

Throw... - {3}, Unattach an Equipment from Captain America: He deals damage equal to that Equipment's mana value divided as you choose among one, two, or three targets.

...Catch - At the beginning of combat on your turn, attach up one target Equipment you control to Captain America.

4/4

M 1726

Artist: Ryan Pancoast

Captain America gets my vote for the best Marvel cards in this batch of spoilers. In the spirit of Cap throwing and retrieving his shield, we have a "Throw..." and "...Catch" ability. For throw, you unattach an equipment and deal damage equal to its mana value, and divide it up among up to three creatures. Things like Excalibur, Sword of Edenimage could get crazy here.

The Catch portion lets you cheat an equipment onto Captain America at the start of combat. This is good for simply attacking but also supports the Throw ability by giving you a way to get high-cost stuff onto him without having to pay the hefty costs. The cherry on top of this already dope card is the mana cost - Instead of showing in a typical WUBRG order, it's plain old Red, White, and Blue for Captain America. Gameplay and lore get a 10/10 here from me.

How Do We Know The MTG Marvel Leaks Are Real?

With all potential leaks, you've got to try and rule out them as fakes that someone has made for clout. In this case, several things point to these Marvel cards being 100% real. First, in general, they look and read like they're supposed to. There are no red flags in the wording, which people do sometimes get wrong.

Next, all of the authors are established MTG authors who have worked on cards before. You can check out their cards here: Ryan PancoastVictor Adame MinguezJustyna Dura (Gil)Tyler Jacobson

Many people have pointed out the 2024 date at the bottom of the card and wondered if that meant the leaks weren't real considering the Marvel colab isn't set until 2025. However, WOTC recently announced that we'd get our first look at Marvel cards at the upcoming New York Comic Con in mid-October. And that is what we're looking at - Most likely spoilers from that first look event.

Conclusion

There you have it, my friends, everything we currently know about the MTG Marvel leaks. It looks like these are all from different Secret Lair drops, so we'll probably be getting a LOT of Marvel cards come 2025. Until then, we have these leaks to ponder. What did you think of the cards, and who else do you have to see make an appearance?
