Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth - All Available Products
The Universes Beyond series of Magic: The Gathering takes other popular fantasy worlds and melds them with that of MTG. On June 23rd, Universes Beyond will crossover with the granddaddy of all epic fantasy, The Lord of the Rings. The set is highly anticipated and has a lot to unpack. So, as we get closer to release, I would like to provide players with a look at all available products for Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth.
The Lord of the Rings MTG products are as follows:
- Draft Boosters
- Set Boosters
- Collector Boosters
- Jumpstart Boosters
- Bundles
- Gift Bundles
- Starter Kits
- Commander Precons
This is a familiar lineup compared to what we're used to today. However, there are a few curve balls. So, in addition to the quick overview above, I'll break down each of the LOTR MTG product lineups in detail, including what they are, what they contain, and why you should or shouldn't buy them. Let's jump right in, starting with Draft boosters.
Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth - Product Guide
Draft Boosters
Draft Boosters are designed explicitly with draft and sealed in mind. Players open draft packs and build decks from the cards inside in these formats. So, each pack has a specific number of common, uncommon, rare, and mythic rare cards without much variance. And won't include non-playable extras such as art cards. This is to ensure that players have a relatively even playing field. If you're looking to play limited, be it draft or sealed, these are the boxes you want.
Contents
- Per Draft Box - 36 Draft Booster Packs + 1 Box Topper
- Per Pack - 15 Playable Cards & one ad/token. Of these 15 cards, you'll get:
- 1 rare or mythic rare
- 3 uncommons
- 10 commons
- 1 land card
This product cannot contain serialized Elven, Dwarven, or Human Sol Ring cards or the 001/001 "One of One Ring" card.
Set Boosters
Set Boosters are made to be fun to open. Since they don't have to be balanced like Draft Boosters, they can contain all manner of things to make cracking packs as exciting as possible. This usually means extra rare or mythic rares and commons & uncommons that share a theme and are less random. Mark Rosewater said it best: "Rather than just one excitement point, we designed the booster to have many excitement points." If you want to crack packs, these are the ones you'll enjoy.

Contents
- Per Set Box - 30 Set Booster Packs + 1 Box Topper
- Per Pack - 12 Playable Cards, one art card & one ad/token or card from “The List” (a special card from Magic's history—found in 25% of packs). The 12 playable cards will have the following:

This product cannot contain serialized Elven, Dwarven, or Human Sol Ring cards or the 001/001 "One of One Ring" card.
Collector Boosters
Collector Boosters contain the fanciest, flashiest card versions a set offers. They also often have highly sought-after "lottery" cards that can sometimes only be found in Collector Boosters. If you like collecting rare cards, you must have everything in foil, borderless or extended art; this will also 100% be the product you want to pick up.

Jumpstart Boosters
Jumpstart Boosters contain 20-themed cards and offer a unique way to play the game because they eliminate the deck-building process. You can open two Jumpstart Boosters, shuffle them together and have a functional 40-card deck. One of my favorite things about Jumpstart is that you can mix & match different themes and colors, or even jumpstart packs from other sets, and change up the experience. This is an excellent option if you're looking for an easy, fresh way to play LOTR-themed MTG.
Contents
- Per Jumpstart Box - 18 Jumpstart Booster Packs
- Per Jumpstart Pack - 20 themed cards (includes basic lands). They break down as follows:

- 1 rare or mythic rare card from the main set
- 2 traditional foil basic lands
- 6 non-foil basic lands

This product cannot contain serialized Elven, Dwarven, or Human Sol Ring cards or the 001/001 "One of One Ring" card.

Commander Precons
Commander is the most popular Magic: The Gathering format, and these reconstructed decks are an easy onramp to the fun of EDH. There are four separate Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth commander precons. Each one contains a deck built around a LOTR-themed commander and everything else you'd need to play. Given that these have important EDH reprints (and new cards for the format), they're great for new and veteran players.
