Historic Brawl - Blessings of the Forest Gods

Hey Ya'll! BPRadiant here with a pretty neat deck that took me a while to keep tinkering with.

We are playing Kodama of the West Treeimage!

Basically we are trying to run a lot of the best options in mono G for modifying creatures instead of going all in on any one of the options. This lead us to have a lot of flexibility that we wouldn't have if we went all in. This is because options for Brawl are vastly different to what we would have in say commander.

So a few things to note is we have a pretty standard package for removal and ramp and draw. These are just what make green good in Historic Brawl and you just want those power picks to help make a shell for the rest of the deck to function.

Now a few tech cards. Allosaurus Sheperd can be really backbreaking into a lot of mono U lists that just wanna counter us for days by giving us options to stop that. Depending on the meta you're playing into you can include things like Prowling Serpopardimage as well. Ram Throughimage also is great removal at instant speed since we give our creatures trample it will often help us to sneak damage through as well. Saryth, the Viper's Fangimage also works really well with trample as trample and deathtouch are just an incredible combo requiring us to be able to trample over 1 damage to get through basically secures us a lot of options and a few wins. Finale of Devastation is good since we are ramping but is often just going to be used to grab a utility card we need at the moment. Often being a 5 mana grab Rec Sage.

We split our modifications between good cheap equipment, counters, and enchantments. Using a few from each to run the absolute best ones. Sanctum Weaverimage often taps for 2 mana early in the game allowing us a really strong ramp option or removal target. Emergent Sequenceimage into Kodama t3 getting the ramp off is one of our better starts along with starting with Pelt Collectorimage getting through to start hitting in.

For equipment we want to run Shadowspear and Eater of Virtue as strong cheap to play and equip cards that allow us to strat ramping and give trample. Cards like Hand of Vecnaimage and Blackblade Reforgedimage are infinitely better since we give the equipped creature trample. This makes that massive buff that much better at closing the games.

MVP's of the deck have to be Nissa, Who Shakes the Worldimage and Vivien, Monster's Advocate as Planeswalkers that provide modified creatures every turn. In addition Nissa gets to replace the lands on damage which helps with the weakness of Nissa. This synergy with Kodama is an incredible win.

Last main thing we have is cards that care about the number of lands you control. In this case we included quite a few with standouts being Multani, Yavimaya's Avatarimage and Ashaya, Sould of the Wild as cards that provide a ton of value and a big body with the ramp we're getting. Ashaya can stop certain board wipes by making your creatures lands. And Multani can be brought back from the yard at the cost of two lands to hand. This gives us a recurable threat in the late game.

Last card I want to talk about is Blanchwood Armorimage this is one of the first cards I remember thinking was giga busted when I was a kid around 7th edition and was proven so wrong. But I'm glad it gets to make a comeback here since with Kodama you get to give whatever creature you gave it to have trample and if it connects it keeps growing. Big fan of sticking this card in the deck.

If you liked the write up I would greatly appreciate you giving the video a watch. It's heavily edited to remove the pauses in the game to keep the action flowing. Hope ya'll have a great day and Be Radiant!
