Learn more Download For WindowsThis is my first draft for Simic Mutate - I'll officially coin it "Scutate"! We are going to mass duplicate our mutation creatures or swarm the opponent with insects galore!
At it's core this is a Simic mutate deck. We are using two new cards from Zendikar: Scute Swarm and Glasspool Mimic. Simic Mutate is very good at fetching lands from the deck while also putting a body on the field. And that''s what we are going to exploit with Scute Swarm. We can either mutate onto it and duplicate our mutated creature (ideal case!) Or simply mutate and create insect after insect. Glasspool Mimic can duplicate our swarm for even more insects.
Obviously our two new cards as explained above: Scute Swarm and Glasspool Mimic. Scute Swarm to go wide - circumventing a weakness that mutation decks often have. And Glasspool Mimic to duplicate our important creatures - be it Pollywogs, the Swarm, or another already mutated creature. Migratory Greathorn helps us trigger the Swarm very frequently. The same holds true for Auspicious Starrix.
Then we have our other mutators: Gemrazer, Pouncing Shoreshark, and Sea-Dasher Octopus. The razer and shark are our removal for creatures and enchantments/artifacts repsectively. The octopus is simply a cheap mutation. But also think of it as an army of octopi when duplicating the scutes with the octopus mutated onto it!
The remainder is filler. We have Pollywog Symbiote for filtering our cards and cheaper mutations, Gilded Goose to maybe go flying and ramp, and two Stonecoil Serpent to have some sort of scalable creature and one more thing for the first two turns of the game. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is our random "win more" card. We can cheat it out with Auspicious Starrix or simply play it with enough ramping while mutating. If we don't need it we can discard it while exchaning it with something else with Pollywog Symbiote's ability.
