Learn more Download For WindowsI've adapted my mono white lifegain a while ago to accomodate for Agent of Treachery, because that guy got so annoying in the Simic Ramp decks together with Thassa, Deep-Dwelling - even before Ikoria. Basically everybody was running that to a ridiculous amount. To counteract the annoyance I got rid of my own creature ETB effects and added at three copies of Hushbringer to my mono white deck.
With even more ETB and death triggers running around with Ikoria now Hushbringer has been getting better and better, justifying four copies. Bye bye Gyruda, Cat, and Elementals!
The deck is a straight forward lifegain deck. Attack, gain life, grow cats.
Yes, Ajani's Pridemate is not the best card and it often finds itself sitting around as a just an ever growing blocker. This deck - more often than not - wins in the air with the hawks, Hushbringers, Archons and Angel of Vitality.
An additional main thing is the added protection of the creatures in the form Alseid of Life's Bounty, Gods Willing and Fight as One. They are all cheap one mana protective spells making it easier to still play things while keeping the protection active. Alseid does not need any introduction or justification. It is simply a nice protective spell with a body and lifegain.
God's Willing is a surprising Instant. Nobody plays it at the moment. That can make people waste spells on removal. Even while there are no humans in the deck the random Fight as One is still a pretty good one mana protection from destruction. Sweepers are the bane of this deck. I still need some balancing between these two cards and Sentinel's Eyes. Sentinel's Eyes is a nice spell triggering Archon of Sun's Grace, getting creatures out of fixed damage removal ranges, and giving Vigilance. In the end you want some copies of each of these three cards in your deck. Maybe cut one of the eyes and add one more Fight as One.
Yes, there is a conflict in this deck between Husbringer and Archon of Sun's Grace with Hushbringer shutting down the Archon. However, with 3/4 the Archon is still a very good lifegain flyer. And there are a bunch of other noncreature enchantments that can trigger its token effect. Also, it's providing two nice pips of devotion for Heliod, Sun-Crowned.
Speaking of Archon triggers the removal in this deck consists of only two Banishing Light and three Conclave Tribunal. There is really no big difference between two Light and three Conclaves versus three Lights and two Conclaves. The convoke of the Conclaves is simply a nice added bonus for rare occasions. I rarely find myself with a Conclave that I could not cast when I could cast a Light instead. A sort-of removal is Ajani, Strength of the Pride. While not often it is still regularly possible to ultimate him and wipe the opponent's board. Plus it gains life and creates cats.
