Learn more Download For WindowsThe main game is to curve out well in the 1-4 mana range. On the play, be sure you have Robber of the Rich, on the draw, you can actually board it out for some removal if you want (depending).
The main crux is actually the 5 mana range. This deck has a few ways to play out, but basically it's:
The Method
Turn 1-4: build your board
Turn 5: Cast Purphoros
Turn 6: Drop 2 creatures and using the 2R ability, ideally two giant creatures. Remember to put down the Terror of Mount Velus SECOND, so that whatever creature you put in first gets the double strike from Terror and haste from Purphoros.
Alts
Irencreg Feat can be used to activate Purphoros ability AND cast a creature, so count your mana and see if you can do both of these things
Yidaro, Wandering Monster can actually be a powerful move in a heavy control game. If you can't cast spells, then don't, just cycle and play the cheap stuff ;)
Strengths: This deck will punish most midrange decks and can usually outclass other aggro decks. Consider this an aggro-midrange deck more than true aggro.
Weaknesses: Bounce. With Teferi, Time Raveler gone, the deck has performed better, but [Petty Theft]] can still be brutal if you just keep having Purphoros bounced.
Sideboarding Tips: The sideboard has hate and some wide removal to get rid of pesky blockers when you don't have trample on a creature. See Robber of the Rich note above.
Rotation Tips: Luckily, I'm sure Drakuseth, Maw of Flames can be replaced by another big scary dragon. Losing Runaway Steam-Kin will be rough, but hopefully another sweet 2-drop will be available in Zendikar Rising.
