Learn more Download For WindowsPoison... Now we're talking! one of the decks i built which i'm really proud of, "Poison Touch 1.0" is a Black/Green, Aggro/Control deck. I actually built when Ikoria just came out but didn't really had the chance to put up. It's original form used Vraska, Swarm's Eminence , Lurrus of the Dream-Den and Hooded Blightfang . When Ikoria got cycled out of standard, in effect, it rendered the deck strategy less effective, so it got stored in the shelves.
"Poison Touch 1.1" fast forward a few expansions later, I've noticed new cards came out to replace the ones that cycled out and actually improve how the deck played.
STRATEGY: The Deck is pretty starightforward, it has a dozen of cheap Deathtouch creatures like Tajuru Blightblade , Tainted Adversary and Fell Stinger , which serves also as good creature control against your opponents more costly and larger creatures (I've also noticed that the "Deathtouch" ability has a way of getting into your opponents head for some reason, they just DON'T WANT TO BLOCK IT by instinct.) , now Deathtouch in itself cannot wincon you're game fast, but I put in Fynn, the Fangbearer to convert the deathtouch hits to "2 Poison Counters each hit". Now as some minority of players might not know "Poison Mechanic: if a Poison dealing creature deals damage to a player, they get Poison counters, if you get a total of 10 Poison Counters on you, you are Automatically Defeated, no amount of healing or damage prevention can take this poison counters off once it's on you, so even if you had G'Zillion life points you still die of 10 poison counters, unless an ability states that you cannot lose the game." (if you do the math, then 1x Poison Counter = 2 Regular Life Points.) , Fynn's passive turns all your cheap deathtouch creatures to 2 Poison Counter dealing creatures, so in effect, your 1/1 deathtouch creature is now equivalent to a 4/1 creature that needs to get its attack through ONLY 5x to defeat your opponent.
Don't be afraid to lose your creatures, just keep pressing the attack with your Deathtouch/Poison or even Fynn for that matter, because as your creatures die, they take out your opponent's creatures with them, you then use Dollhouse of Horrors or Blood on the Snow to bring back your creatures to continue putting your poison pressure on them, just be aware that Dollhouse can only bring back your creature once, since the original's turned into tokens (be extra carefull on exiling too much of Fynn this way, since you always need him or a copy of him atleast to be on the field to inflict poison counters.). Another card that really works well which i really love is the Fell Stinger , besides it being deathtouch, you also may cast it for its Exploit ability to draw 2 cards, or deal 2 damage to an opponent who's low on life, again you may use Dollhouse of Horrors to create a copy of the sacrificed Fell Stinger and sac Exploit the 2nd time for only 1 mana (that's a total of 4 cards and 4 damage), another is Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire , now this is really funny, because they are afraid to block the Sire it being Deathtouch (or you could just equip it with Thieves' Tools ) , you get to counterpick specific control spells you will draw depending on what the opponent is using at the moment, Opponents usually just notice this much later and then kill the sire, after the damage was already done a few turns later. Since this deck only cares about the poison counters, it ignores life totals, making Infinite Life decks irrelevant.
On the subject of getting the poison through, the deck sports a number of stealthy and devious ways of doing that. Be sure Fynn is always on the field for these to work:
First we have the Thieves' Tools , as you may have noticed, most of the deathtouch creatures in the deck has ATK powers 3 below, so equiping them with this cheap artifact gets their poison thru "UnBlocked", but only if the creature's power doesn't exceed 3 (do take note of this for later);
The Second way of doing this is thru "Creature Control", the deck, besides having an adequate amount of board wipes like Blood on the Snow and Meathook Massacre , also has a generous amount of creature control like Feed the Serpent , Binding the Old Gods and about 7-8x OWN DAMAGE dealing spells like Rabid Bite and Devouring Tendrils which only costs 2 mana, nearly each creature in this deck has deathtouch so using these "own damage dealing spells" effectively deathtouches your opponents creatures out of combat at sorcery speed (regardless of the creature's toughness, ex: a 1 damage from your deathtouch creature directly dealt using this spells on an 11/11 creature destroys it, as if they got deathtouched in combat.) most of the time this is enough to clear out the path for your deathtouch creatures to inflict poison on the player;
Third way of doing this is thru sheer relentlessness, by equiping a Toski, Bearer of Secrets with a Vorpal Sword , which turns your indestructible, card drawing, 1/1, Legendary Squirrel into an unstoppable deathtouch/poison force of nature which makes your opponents think twice before blocking it, they have no choice tho, because if they don't, they get 2 poison counters equivalent to 4 life points, and you btw also draw a card for free. (note: Vorpal Sword also puts a +2 ATK power on your creature, so if you intend to use Thieves' Tools together with Vorpal Sword , it will only work on ATK power 1 creatures, ex: Fynn, Tajuru and Toski.);
Fourth way is a bit devious and might need a certain amount of timing to pull off thru "Numbers" which I suggest you only attempt on mid to late game for it to work. Within the deck we have the creature Tainted Adversary which creates 2/2 zombie tokens with decay when you pay an extra 3 mana while casting the 2 mana cost of the adversary, at early game you can't generate a lot of these zombies so you might as well just cast the adversary and get it killed, you want to get the adversary killed because when you get enough mana and you've got your Dollhouse of Horrors in field you can just create a token copy of the Tainted Adversary for 1 mana and trigger its ability to create the zombies mid to late game (the more the merrier), you hold from attacking these zombies till the last minute you have both Saryth, the Viper's Fang and Fynn, the Fangbearer in the field, now Saryth has a very deceiving passive, "when your other creatures are untapped they have hexproof shown by an icon on the creatures, but when these creatures Attack, the Hexproof is changed to Deathtouch" (an ability change which the opponents don't usually notice) you just attack all the Zombies and each of them becomes a deathtouch, 2 poison counter ambushing creature., Another version of this ambush is by casting a Binding the Old Gods and waiting out its saga token 3 ability which gives all your creatures deathtouch, and then you go in for the kill;
Fifth way is a bit late game and doesn't involve poison counters. After you've exhausted all your creature control and your opponent still survives your poison counters, you put both Thieves' Tools and Vorpal Sword on Toski, Bearer of Secrets or any ATK power 1 creature, do an unblockable attack and pay the 8 mana (this is not so hard to pool since both Thieves' Tools and Binding the Old Gods Ramps you up.) Vorpal Sword instakill ability to win the game. THE END
p.s. this has got to be the longest, most exhausting guide i made for a deck, i hope the guide helps, and hope you guys enjoy the deck 🐍 please support and leave a Like if you actually Liked the deck off course 😹. till next time guys.
