Note: I'm not a top ranked player. I'm just a random player who enjoys making deck shells for draft archetypes, mainly for my own reference. The shells are based on similarities I saw between recent trophy decks on 17lands ranked Diamond or higher. It is also based on cards performing well on 17lands in a particular color pair.
I try to limit the maindeck to only 1 uncommon, usually the signpost uncommon, unless other non-commons are vital to or much better for the archetype. The rest of the maindeck is limited to a max of 2 of each common. The sideboard has viable uncommons that can replace cards in the maindeck, depending on the deck's synergies. The maybeboard has curve-filler commons that are less powerful or less synergistic.
Overview: The UR trophy decks that I looked at in ONE were a bit all over the place. That could mean it's a flexible color pair or maybe it's a jack-of-all-trades master of none archetype. Its main synergies are noncreature spells and oil counters. There is also a small artifact synergy.
Aggro/Tempo: Efficient and/or evasive attackers supported by lots of removal, interaction and combat tricks. Creatures such as Chimney Rabble
, Barbed Batterfist
, Gitaxian Raptor
, Furnace Strider
, Malcator's Watcher
, Axiom Engraver
supported by Hexgold Slash
, Volt Charge
, Surgical Skullbomb
, Free from Flesh
, Blazing Crescendo
and Hazardous Blast
. It doesn't have to lean hard towards oil but it can if you have uncommons like Exuberant Fuseling
and Trawler Drake
. Free from Flesh becomes much more effective and Experimental Augury
can be used like a combat trick with them.
Midrange/Defensive + a Bomb: Most of the UR trophy decks in ONE i saw had a bomb, most commonly Dragonwing Glider
. Other bombs or finishers include Jace, the Perfected Mind
, Koth, Fire of Resistance
and Ovika, Enigma Goliath
. These decks had slightly fewer aggressive 2 drops and combat tricks than the Aggro/Tempo version replaced by more Gitaxian Raptor, Axiom Engraver and 1-2 Experimental Augury to defend and dig for the bomb
All-in on Artifacts: One trophy deck was similar to the WU artifact deck where most of its cards are artifacts running 2 Eye of Malcator
. Prioritize Surgical Skullbomb, Barbed Batterfist, Malcator's Watcher, Unctus's Retrofitter
, Chrome Prowler
, Eye of Malcator, Escaped Experiment
and Shrapnel Slinger
and other For Mirrodin! equipment.
