Description

Considered dropping a land for either a burn spell or a tin street dodger but it turns out in this meta [written as of 3/19/2020] everyone goes for greed so you find yourself hardcasting bonecrusher giants kind of often. Hitting land number 3 is incredibly important especially since no one ever lets steamkins live ever.

Keep any hand with 1 land (as long as it's not castle) and light up or more. Never keep any hand with 4 lands unless the three other cards are 1 drop 2 drop (bonecrusher doesn't count lol) anax.

The ideal hand is probably something like 2 lands, 2 fervents, light up, anax, cleave - on the play there is no deck in the world that can win against that.

The new tech in this deck is tectonic giant, it's super super good vs. sultai and bant and greedy piles because they're generally hanging on by a thread hoping you run out of gas - you just make consistent card advantage or free damage to face by swinging with it and having four life beats temur piles with scorching or bonecrushers. If they double bonecrush they take 6 to face and you probably win anyway, also if they gust it you've already made card advantage with it etc.

Sideboard:

Mirror:

play: +3 claim +3 redcap melee +1 lava coil -3 rimrock -2 steamkin -2 tibalt
draw: +3 claim +3 redcap melee +1 lava coil -2 scorch spitters -2 steamkin -2 tibalt -1 light up the stage

probably one of the deepest matchups - you need to be constantly aware draw to draw whether you're the beatdown or the control, it changes with boardstate, land drops, specific one drops etc.

Mengu's Sultai Pile:

+1 claim +1 chandra +2 tectonic giant -2 scorch spitter -2 steamkin

consider boarding in lava coils for massacre girl but if they cast this we basically lose so you don't want to commit too much to the board with anax, weirdly enough. the 1 claim is for resolved Uros, can be a huge surprise, more is inting for sure, not sure if that should even be in. this is really one of those you win or you don't matchups though you win most of the time even if they have hella interaction.

Crokeyz's Bant Pile:

+3 claim +1 chandra +2 tectonic giant -2 scorch spitter -1 rimrock -4 steamkin

you absolutely smash this matchup, on the draw turn 3 anax is the only way to beat shatter the sky, if you don't have him just swing for as much as possible and hold some 2 drops in hand or some giants/rimrocks on adventure. if they resolve nissa you don't want to remove her you need to race them with claims and torbs and cleaves etc you're never going to outvalue them even with giant. teferi is actually free af, but you should kill him after he bounces anax etc with a 1 drop because instant speed shatter the sky will ruin you

Rakdos Sacrifice:

+2 claim +3 redcap melee +3 shieldbreaker +3 lava coil -2 scorch spitter -3 rimrock -2 bonecrusher -4 steamkin

your out is embercleave to kill them basically. this is a really hard matchup. mayhem devil resolving is probably the end - you need removal for that at all costs basically. lava coiling cats helps. resolving tibalt is really important, much more important than resolving anax.

Like the maindeck Tibalts, that's a good move in a meta thick with lifegain.
