Description

*Note- Although this deck plays Blue cards, every single one will trigger Runaway Steam-Kinimage. Hence the "Mono-Red" moniker*

Its back. The original mono-red Arclight Phoeniximage Abuse. Flashy, fast, and powerful.  The newly released War of the Spark added just what this deck needed to allow it to play like the Modern Format variants. This is thanks to some new red discard options through Honor the God-Pharaohimage and Finale of Promiseimage.

Mono-Red Arclight Abuse

War of the Spark Edition

This deck is designed to completely abuse the recursion effect of Arclight Phoeniximage. Further, the already insane potential of  Runaway Steam-Kinimage has been turned up to eleven. These cards are busted. This is not an auto-pilot deck, you will likely have numerous plays available every turn due to the very low average converted mana cost. Consider the order and turns on which you cast spells VERY carefully. One wrong play can domino effect your whole game.

Mono-Red is really the ONLY way to build this deck. Its faster, more fun, and more consistent than the now-common Izzet variations similar to the one in the last video link below.

I would not recommend this as a first-deck for new players. It plays more like combo than aggro. Every turn is EXTREMELY technical in card ordering and choice. However, when mastered, it is very satisfying and extremely consistent. Turn-by-turn math calculations are very similar to those required in the RB Hollow One lists you may have come across in Modern.

Back when Arclight Phoeniximage was first released, people initially thought it was lackluster, and the card was much, much more affordable ($4.00 on 10/12/19: Arclight Phoenix Abuse).

Arclight's affordability changed quickly. People started seeing what kind of power the card held, and the price went up. Way up.

I made a few highlights and clips too. (Clip 1Highlight 1Highlight 2, and Highlight 3)

Eventually, the price for Arclight Phoeniximage went over $30.00 in March of 2019. However, today Arclight is almost half of what it was two months ago- $18.75. Time to bring it back up.

While the deck saw plenty of competive play with the Izzet variants, Mono-Red Arclight fell short due to lack of discard options available in the red-color source. You were limited to Tormenting Voiceimage and various jump-start cards which were less than optimal.

Ultimately, the deck was relegated to fancy combo compilations, but never really saw competitive light.

That was in the Standard format, though. In Modern, it was (and is) a different story. Mono-Red is perfectly viable, and is infact fierclycompetetive2

Fortunately, War of the Spark has brought the missing ingredients to the Standard format.

This write-up is still a work in progress. I intend to add card choice analysis, match-ups, and sideboard. Consider this current version a preview. Accordingly, please excuse its current state, as this is draft version 1.0.
