Description

Hey y'all! I'm here to talk about a commander I wasn't the most hyped about this set that turned out to be incredibly strong. Katilda, Dawnhart Primeimage is so crazy good its almost not fair. I didn't think of how strong it would be to have a 2 mana ramp piece in the deck in the two drop slot. Sure its not quite the sythis value engine but at this point lets take a look at some of the synergies that Selesnya has that aren't based on enchantress effects. This deck will take a good look at the weenie aggro strategy these decks can put together with having very strong well statted low cost creatures with relevant abilities that also have a relavent typing of humans which then turns them into mana rocks to really explode in value with Katilda out. Worst case scenario Katilda on 2 lets you pretty easily double spell on turn 3 which is a huge boon to our tempo plays. The second strategy these colors have together is a +1/+1 tokens strategy which our Commander also uses.

We'll go into more depth about these in a second. First if you want the decklist you can find it attached to this and I also have a video attached of me playing the deck. If you like the deck I'd appreciate it if you give it a view. I think it'll show off some interesting angles of attack with the deck.

Deck Tech:

So first lets talk general game plan. If you can sequence your lands you want to get Katilda off on turn two then double spell or play an impactful 4 drop on turn 3. This will let you really start generating value on your opponent since you can go aggro with your creatures or start using them as mana to develop your board. The trickiest part of this deck is knowing when to do which. Into other aggro matchups you need to get established so you can activate the second ability to pump your creatures and against a more midrange or control shell you want to be the beatdown. Its important to realize when they've stabalized by now we're then just going to try to setup to punch through since you'll have knocked off a few life points and they'll be more scared of letting damage through for free. The deck is fairly light on removal so its important to focus on key pieces with it. So evaluating your opponents strategy is key here.
We can use some of our counters matter cards to setup for a big board. Cards like Hardened Scalesimage and Branching Evolutionimage really speed up our clock on our opponent. Since we are in green we also put in the Field of the Dead and Hour of Promiseimage package to have some inevitability against board wipes which is a weakness of the deck. Knight of the Reliquaryimage can also help with this since you'll be able to tutor out lands to meet the field trigger.

Using cards like Heroic Intervention and Inspiring Callimage at the right times will be crucial to actually winning as well with this deck. Aggro decks that are creature focused can be very effective but without the more quick setup of red we have to rely on other ways to stick around to close out games.

There's an argument to be made to run even more than 31 creatures in the list since a lot of our draw is based off cantriping our creatures out with things like The Great Henge, Guardian Project, Insipiring Commander, and Mentor of the Meekimage. However, unlike commander we are limited with the number of good and effective cheap human cards. The limited pool can be felt a good amount.
Key closers for the deck to protect and setup are Champion of Lambholtimage letting us punch through blockers, Abzan Falconerimage, letting us give evasion to our whole board, and Cathar's Crusade which can be a very strong card if you can follow it up with a creature or two the turn you play it.

Hope y'all enjoyed taking your first look at Katilda. Let me know if you would do anything different or have any questions on why I chose a specific card. I would love to discuss possible improvements to the list as I do think that it has spots it could improve on with iteration.
Have a great weekend and Be Radiant!
