So the past few days I've been having a lot of fun with a Dimir saga deck that was doing quite well vs midrange/aggro decks. You can find that here: Horobi Dimir
While the deck did well against the above, it struggled vs control unless I won by turn seven or eight. Kaito Shizuki is good card draw if he can stick to the board, but it felt too slow in aggro matchups and might only get one or two draws before cleared by control. I wanted reliable draw turn three. In comes Expressive Iteration and a third color.
Red has a lot of really nice options for sagas, especially if you're in black already. Hidetsugu Consumes All // Vessel of the All-Consuming hits a lot of decks either through token/weenie removal or graveyard exile. Fable of the Mirror-Breaker // Reflection of Kiki-Jiki generates treasure, a cycle mechanic, and can use its ability to create tokens of other saga creatures on the board. Since we're 3-color and have fairly reliable treasure generation, why not splash a bit more for The Kami War // O-Kagachi Made Manifest and tell a cool story to the other player to boot?
So far the deck is performing at slightly above 50% in mythic Bo1 over about 25 games. Jeskai Control and Rakdos feel like really good matchups. Monowhite is winnable if Thalia doesn't stick, as is stompy if you have an early sweeper in hand for the tokens. I don't realistically see it doing that well over a larger sample so if you're looking to rank this isnt the right deck.
But the games, even the really crushing losses, have been incredibly enjoyable so far. The deck just looks crazy on the board, especially against other tribals. It's like the war is being waged all over again through the decks. Had a crazy game vs Selesnya humans with all the legendary GW humans clashing with the All-Consuming, Mirror Breaker, Toshiro, and Horobi. After that game I decided to start recording them and hopefully will have some video to share of the deck in the next few days if I can get some more games like that one!
I really hope, if you decide to give it a try, that you have as much fun as I've had playing it!
Enjoy!
