Learn more Download For WindowsThis is a very speculative deck considering Kaldheim isn't yet, but when went to sleep last I couldn't stop thinking about all the fun and absurd things you could once Kaldheim hits standard. This is one the decks I was thinking of. Gixis Discard. One of my favorite archetypes ever. Now wihtout further ado let's begin the deck tech.
The overall gameplan of this deck is to empty the opponents hand and battlefield. The first step is staying alive with removal. The second is gaining control of the amount of cards in your opponents hand with the discard spells. The third is taking the opponents life total to zero in two or three turns with big recursive beaters.
Our removal suite consists of Bloodchief's Thirst, Crush the Weak, Feed the Serpent, Ravenform, and Soul Shatter. Bloodchief's Thirst is good. We know that. Kills small things. Can kill big things. In a world of Lurrus's, Crush the Weak not only kills lots of small things, it keeps them dead by exiling them. Feed the Serpent is a test card. The question is whether not have the 2 life attached to it makes it unplayable compared to Vraska's Contempt. Ravenform is downright amazing. It hits creatures and artifact. It exiles. You can foretell it. It's cheep. Did I mention it's mono-blue? This card is insane. Mostly because it hit's creatures and The Great Henge and Embercleave. Soul Shatter's big point is it combos with Tergrid, God of Fright. Yoinking an Ugin is no small feat.
Living up to it's name, almost a third of the cards in this deck, including lands, can make our opponent discard. First we have a full playset of Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger and Tergrid, God of Fright. Then we have three each of Liliana, Waker of the Dead and Immersturm Skullcairn. Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger is a one off discard spell until we escape it, turn around, and raze our opponents lifetotal. Acquisitions Expert is just a cute discard spell that arrives as a chump blocker. Tergrid, God of Fright's other side Tergrid's Lantern is nice repeatable effect, but it's usually just a bolt until our opponent's life total gets low. Liliana, Waker of the Dead is really good. Makes our opponent discard every turn, and if we play it right, using foretell and returning Lochmere Serpent back to our hand, we won't have to discard ourselves. Immersturm Skullcairn is an edge case for extra damage or discard but it's still really good. Finally, the bow that ties it all together is Tergrid, God of Fright. It turns every discard into a Bribery that hits the opponents hand.
Lastly, we have finishers. Along with Kroxa we have Lochmere Serpent. It is super versatile. It has flash for ambushes. It exiles when you bring it back to your hand. You can bring it back to your hand. It can be unblockabled or draw you cards. It's amazing. The other finisher is Tergrid, God of Fright. Because it takes our opponents finishers.
I lied. That isn't the last. Mana Base! We only need single blue, double red, and double black. We have three Blightstep Pathways, three Clearwater Pathways, and two Riverglide Pathways. We have a full playset of Fable Passages and two Swamps, two Mountains, and one Island. In addition to the previously mentioned Immersturm Skullcairn we have Port of Karfell and Surtland Frostpyre. Port of Karfell can help recurr Tergrid or fill our graveyard for Kroxa. Surtland Frostpyre is another small boardwipe with a little card advantage tacked on.
