Description

Guide:

Early Moves

Open with Legion's Landing // Adanto, the First Fortimage and/or Goblin Banneretimage

imageimage

Mentor the token as your third move if possible. If you can't get tokens, focus on mentoring. Don't sacrifice your cards too early, this isn't a full aggro deck.

Thin with Militia Buglerimage and look for Aurelia, Exemplar of Justiceimage and/or Legion Warbossimage if you don't already have them in hand.

Mentor Chaining

Chain mentor with Legion Warbossimage, Boros Challengerimage, Sunhome Stalwartimage and Tajic, Legion's Edgeimage

imageimageimageimage

Swiftblade Vindicatorimage should be your top Mentor target, followed by vamp tokens if Vindicator is unavailable, then goblin tokens as the last priority. Use Mentor on other Mentor creatures to keep the ball rolling, and try to spread the love around (i.e., don't put all your eggs in one basket).

Finishers

Play Heroic Reinforcementsimage for tempo swing as needed. Use it wisely, it's better with more creatures on the battlefield.

image

Don't use Risk Factorimage too early. Wait until your opponent has 10 or fewer life, they almost always give you the cards. The measly 4 damage isn't worth it.

image

Ajani, Adversary of Tyrantsimage is very much an optional play in this deck. I tend to use him to weed out counters, then I play Aurelia, Exemplar of Justiceimage, who is much more effective on a stacked battlefield. Conversely, you could use Aurelia or Tajic to clear the way for Ajani. It depends on the context. All three are cards are where your victory condition lives.

Sideboard:

You can bring your lands down to 22 and pop in Deafening Clarionimage to handle those pesky Saproling machines. If you prefer 24 mana, replace Risk Factorimage, considering token creation decks aren't as draw-heavy (so you only need to match the pace of the tokens, not card draw).

image

Chance for Gloryimage is a replacement for Heroic Reinforcementsimage and is handy against control decks once you've filtered out their counters. Timing is important, though, since you don't want to get hit with Seal Awayimage or Settle the Wreckageimage

image

Experimental Frenzyimage is profoundly inconsistent. However, it's a solid defense against decks with a lot of card draw/discard power mid-game.

image

Lightning Strikeimage is there if you need more damaging instants. Obviously.

image

Response // Resurgenceimage is such a cool card, but I rarely have the context or mana to use it properly in this deck. I originally included it as part of the core deck, but considering that it repeats the role of 2 or 3 other cards in this roster, it's redundant. However, it is very flexible and a really great finisher, so think about holding it in your sideboard all the same.

image

Luminous Bondsimage is one of those great, cheap enchantments that annihilates fat plays like Ghalta, Primal Hungerimage. But, again, it's all about consistency. Read the context, adjust with your sideboard wisely.
