So, this deck likes to storm off - play plenty of spells, get more mana, draw a ton of cards, play even more spells, and in the process win the game.
The decklist is based upon the deck by ImNotFine, which is great and had the same idea, but it's tweaked. The former deck had lots of cycling cards and trinkets as fillers, which help to draw towards the various combo pieces but aren't doing anything, apart from taking time to click through them.
So, here's a version which instead adds some more payoffs for playing a ton of instants and sorceries: First off, Moonveil Regent
and Primal Amulet // Primal Wellspring
help you to keep going when you churn through your deck, and second Guttersnipe
, Kessig Firebreather, Electrostatic Field
, Smoldering Egg // Ashmouth Dragon
, Firebrand Archer
or even Young Pyromancer
help you kill the opponent in the process. Also Crackle with Power
went in there for an alternate wincon when we have created a ton of mana, or Lightning Bolt
which responds favourably to being copied with Repeated Reverberation
or Increasing Vengeance
. Well you get the idea.
The deck is a ton of fun to play, and the comeback potential is fantastic. Just one thing is important: Since it is very reliant on Birgi, it's important to not play her in tap-out control matchups until the last possible moment to combo off in the same turn. For the red player it's not always easy to be patient, but getting too bloodthirsty lost me a game or two. On the other hand, we beat most aggro or midrange decks because we're just much faster than them, being able to win on turn 4 or turn five when the stars align.
Apart from that, the greatest enemy is the clock - the deck is quite difficult to play because you need to make lots of quick decisions among many lines of play, and you have little time to click through a lot of cards. If you hate that, then this deck really isn't for you, but if you enjoy it, it's just a blast, and feels very much like playing Modern. Have fun!
