Description

***Work in progress***

Standard Yorion Bant Midrange list for IKO meta.

Please check out my original Bant MidRamp list for context.

I'm currently testing this list and making a lot of changes, but I'll provide updates as I begin to settle on choices, the meta evolves, etc.

As with all decks, I encourage folks to break the deck down to its core/shell and tweak it from there.
Here is what I would use as a shell for the deck:

4x Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrathimage
2x Agent of Treacheryimage

4x Growth Spiralimage
4x Elspeth Conquers Deathimage
4x Shatter the Skyimage
4x Omen of the Seaimage

4x Teferi, Time Ravelerimage
3x Tamiyo, Collector of Talesimage
2x Narset, Parter of Veilsimage

+Lands (35-39)

Add and subtract cards from there to your liking.

Here are a few important things to note when switching from traditional Bant Midrange to Yorion Bant Midrange:

  • Meeting the companion requirement of Yorion, Sky Nomadimage (i.e., running 80 cards) is less harsh for Bant than for other builds.
    • Bant colors are not lacking powerful cards in standard. We don't face the "bottom of the barrel" issue that, in my opinion, becomes a minor issue for a pure Azorius build. Being forced to pick 'meh' cards like Absorbimage doesn't feel good. We dodge this issue by adding a dash of green to the build.
    • It was difficult to flood with traditional Bant MidRamp; it's nearly impossible with this version. You always have a payoff. The only thing that varies is how much of a payoff it is. This is why we need a decent amount of synergy cards in the deck to make it worthwhile. For example, recycling an Omen of the Seaimage is a much bigger deal than it seems. Our 1 free card (and guaranteed payoff) just became 2 free cards and fixed our draws to line up another payoff.
    • Although Blue and White have the best synergies with Yorion, Sky Nomadimage, Green has some good candidates for abusing Yorion's mass 'slide' effect. Cards like Knight of Autumnimage become even more attractive when a second trigger is on the table. We also don't have to be as shy about using the -3 on Tamiyo, Collector of Talesimage because her loyalty will reset to its massive starting value.
  • Just because we run Yorion, Sky Nomadimage doesn't mean we should over-tune the deck to synergize with it. For example, a lot of folks have been quick to cut Hydroid Krasisimage from the list. Maybe they're right, but I'm not convinced. I also like keeping 1 copy of Dream Trawlerimage in the build. As I explained in my other Bant write up, these 2 plus Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrathimage form a nasty trifecta of win conditions. I'm reluctant to give that up entirely until I'm convinced that heavy Agent of Treacheryimage setups yield consistent results with this build.

Update 4/30: We run more Agent of Treacheryimage because the card is bonkers. Currently running 3 copies so we have a decent shot at drawing one each game. Others are having success running the full set of 4 main deck. The decline in Aggro makes this less likely to be punished so I shouldn't be too surprised. All aboard the treachery train!

One analyze I saw, and agreed to is that having a 80 cards deck tends to dilute your draw. The best bet is to stick to 3/4 only as oner might just never appear when you need/want them.
Aggro have been mostly removed from my meta, but, as it might come back again, I might need to find specific answers quick.
In such situation, I think you consider the only dreamtrawler as a bonus wincon, and maybe focusing on someting specific might add consistency to the build.

@Cedor:
I agree with your suggestion regarding Castle Vantress in the Yorion version of Bant 100%. I think 1 copy is safe and correct in this list. I’ll make the change. Thank you!

I'm happy you go for yorion.

In your bant you have avoid castle vantress, I guess it's because of the few island in the deck, and it would have remove a target for fabled passage. What would you think about adding some here as you have much more space?
