Learn more Download For WindowsThis is a very interesting deck that I built for a customer on Fiverr. If you'd like a deck built you can find me on Fiver.com as genoslugcs.
Ok man, I won't go over every card but I wanted to explain a few of my choices here.
You can't have a reanimator deck without reanimation spells. The deck runs the very best ones that I could choose from throughout MTG history. Some are single target spells like Reanimate and others are mass reanimation like Living Death, Living End, All Hallows Eve. These last three also work as board wipes!
Overall, there are a total of around 10-11 spells that bring things back from the graveyard. While this might seem low, I found that I had no problem reanimating lots of things when I was testing. So, let's move on. Oh, and don't forget about Agadeem, the Undercrypt too. The reanimation side of it is INSANE.
The spells mentioned above won't be very good without a way to load your graveyard with threats. All of the cards pictured above are great ways to fill the graveyard. That said, there are countless others as well. Traumatize may be the best for landing massive amounts of creatures into the yard but there are a few others I wanted to cover as well.
Most of the card draw within the deck has some discard element as well. For example, cards like Sift and Fact or Fiction will draw you cards and let you ditch some too, which is great. Tortured Existence is another great one for picking and choosing what you want in the graveyard.
Arcanis the Omnipotent is perhaps my personal favorite but there are tons of nasty stuff to bring back. With Entomb and Reanimate in your opening hand you can put any creature in the deck into play on turn two. I landed Arcanis the Omnipotent on turn two in testing very easily.
Another thing to note here is how good it can be to reanimate Gray Merchant of Asphodel a few times. With cards like Demon of Death's Gate and Griselbrand in the deck you can quickly drain opponent(s) of all their life. I also included a sneaky copy of Tainted Strike with can one-hit-kill players out of nowhere with Demon of Death's Gate... So, keep that in mind.
This combo wins you the game on the spot. Once you have Laboratory Maniac in play and Demonic Consultation in hand you can win. Demonic Consultation is an instant, so on your upkeep (right before your draw step) and cast it and name a card you don't have in the deck. This will exile your whole deck and when you go to your draw step you'll win thanks to Laboratory Maniac and your deck being empty.
This combo can actually work to mill out your opponent at times as well. While it's not the main Wincon, keep in mind that it is possible. There are even some cards in the sideboard to help lean into the mill plan if someone is stopping your reanimation with graveyard hate.
Since this is such an easy way to win, I included all of the best tutors to make it consistent as well. Not only are these for the combos but help the deck in general, since it is singleton. We have:
I included plenty of things that all decks should have. So, if you look through the list you'll find plenty card draw, creature removal, a few board wipes, plenty of lands, and ramp spells. The deck can actually ramp like crazy, which is great since you will be able to actually cast everything in the deck if you need to. That said, the deck can have some slow draws with lots of ramp... If the format plays REALLY fast let me know and we can tweak some things.
I don't know what sort of decks your group plays, so I tried to cover as many bases as possible. First, there's a lot of color-hate. For example, Dragon's Claw, Llawan, Cephalid Empress, Yawgmoth's Edict, Blue Elemental Blast, and Reign of Terror.
Then we have some graveyard hate - Reminisce, Bojuka Bog, Ashiok, Dream Render, Cling to Dust, Leyline of the Void, and Yixlid Jailer all of which will leave your graveyard intact.
There's also hate for counters (Vampire Hexmage), Storm/Spellslinging (Flusterstorm & Arcane Laboratory), lifegain (Archfiend of Dispair)), as well as a few extra board wipes and removal in case they play tokens or something with lots of creatures. Lastly, we have Lost Legacy and Infinite Obliteration to get rid of opposing combo cards or name their graveyard hate cards BEFORE they can cast them.
Also, the tutors mentioned above can grab any of these sideboard cards as well.:) The only other thing I would mention is that the deck can be damaging to itself at times, so keep an eye on that. I wasn't sure if you played this format with 40 life or 20 so I tested both... And won all games. But if you play with 20 life, just be careful with Reanimate and abilities like the one on Griselbrand.
