LOTR Secret Lair "More Adventures in Middle-earth" Might Be The Worst Ever
Secret Lair products are sometimes hit or miss. Some are massively popular, and others leave you wondering who over at Wizards of the Coast could have possibly given the idea the green light. Despite the massive success of the Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth set, overall, the Secret Lair for the set is undoubtedly in that latter category. And if I may be so bold, it might be the worst Secret Lair ever. What makes the LOTR Secret Lair so bad? Let's find out.
The LOTR Secret Lair Is A RIPOFF
Ok, so I know what you're thinking - Secret Lairs have been bad before, and the value of the contents doesn't always justify the price tag. That's nothing new. That's true, but More Adventures in Middle-earth takes it to a new level of money gouging. Let's start with what the drop comes with.
The Contents
Here is a list view where you can see each card fully:
Perhaps you've already spotted the problem. Each card is from the main Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth set, released a week ago. Furthermore, each one is originally a common or uncommon that has been upgraded to rare for the drop. If you head over to TCGPlayer, these four cards are collectively worth about $0.33. This Secret Lair drop is $29.99 for the non-foil version! So, if you pick this up, you'll be paying about 100x the actual value of the cards for this new art.

Further adding to the insanity of this product, there's supposed to be a "collector's edition" of the set that comes with animated art like this. It's unclear if these particular cards will have different animated art than what comes with this drop, but it makes it weird either way. Because these "special" art versions aren't even going to be a concept unique to the drop.
Conclusion
I can't imagine any MTG player wanting this particular version of four common and uncommon cards from the Secret Lair bad enough to pay $30 for them when the regular versions are hardly more than a quarter. Perhaps this drop is aimed more at Lord of the Rings fans unfamiliar with the game. I don't know.
