Description

Fastest Mono Black Aggro Deck?

image image image image

Introduction

This is my attempt to create a mono black aggro deck. The deck's name is a small misnomer, since it started with including just skeletons for early aggression and Phyrexians for late game threats. Over time, it turned into a deck that includes also humans, bats, and vampires. The deck doesn't feature Cult Conscriptimage, because it notoriously does not benefit from haste from Corpses of the Lostimage. Tinybones, the Pickpocketimage, on the other hand, is not included, because it hits only for 1 and is most of the time only a legendary Typhoid Ratsimage. I also considered Case of the Stashed Skeletonimage as quite a weak card, wherefore it wasn't included in the deck. However, both Forsaken Minerimage and Corpses of the Lostimage were excellent cards, especially when played together.

Format

  • The deck is for the Standard format with Outlaws of Thunder Junction being the last legal set.
  • The deck is probably Tier 1.5 or Tier 2 caliber.
  • The deck can be played in both Bo1 and Bo3. This version is for Bo1. For Bo3, you need to pre-sideboard the deck according to a different meta.
  • The deck is pretty fast, and thus it's suitable for quickly grinding a large number of wins in the MTG Arena ladder.

Strategy

Skeletons

image image

Skeletons can deal a hefty deal of damage in the early game, if left unchecked. It's nice that Corpses of the Lost gives haste, which makes Forsaken Miners an instant threat dealing 3 or more damage.

Card Draw

image image image

There are plenty of ways to draw cards in the deck. Gix is nice with Deep-Cavern Bats and several small creatures, while Preacher of the Schism is an all-around nice card that can also attack with deathtouch, regardless of blockers. Evolved Sleeper is a great early game threat, costing only 1 mana, but also a great late game threat with its card draw ability.

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

image

Sheoldred is a great card and the only way to deal direct damage in the deck.

Removal

image image image

The removal package is a pretty normal one for a black deck. Notably, there's Bitter Triumph, which can be used to discard Forsaken Minerimage, Tenacious Underdogimage, or an extra land into the graveyard, triggering the descend ability of Corpses of the Lostimage. You can even discard Forsaken Minerimage to Bitter Triumph and then immediately return it to the battlefield by paying 1 black mana.

Takenuma, Abandoned Mire

Takenuma can be used trigger the descend ability of Corpses of the Lostimage in addition to its normal use.
