Description

Pink Burn

Combos

  • Koth + Artist's talent: Koth gets you mountains to discard
  • Artist's talent + Festival of Embers: Talent lets you aggressively fill your graveyard with instants and sorceries for the Festival. Discard the first festival if your graveyard isn't full yet.
  • Festival of Embers + Adventure cards: You can cast the adventure side of Heartflame Duelist and Virtue of Courage from the graveyard
  • Quintorius Kand + Adventure cards: Quintorius's passive triggers when you cast a card from the adventure zone
  • Heartflame Duelist + Brotherhood's End: Casting the Duelist directly into Brotherhood's End can be a huge gain in life
  • Quintorius Kand + Virtue of Courage: This racks up damage incredibly quickly
  • Artist's talent + burn spells: Obvious, but it only takes 4 3-damage burn spells to kill someone from 20 life

Notes

* Prioritise preserving life total at the expense of cards if you are likely to cast a Festival of Embers, as you have to pay life to cast the cards again from the graveyard. Remember you can only cast the cards on your turn.

* You usually win games with either with a fully-powered up Artist's Talent, or with Virtue of Courage staying on the battlefield. Prioritise achieving one of these before throwing burn at their face.

* You very rarely need more than 1 Artist's Talent. If the opponent isn't playing colors that can remove it, you can discard any others you draw.

Matchups

* Against red: Kill their creatures while they're tapped down if you can. On their turn, don't let them attack if you can 100% kill the creature. If you can't 100% kill the creature before they attack, attempt to kill it on endstep. Use Shock over Torch the Tower against the death-trigger creatures if it costs only a single point of damage, Torch can save you a lot more than that later.

Never tap down if you can help it. Only deploy to the board if you can do so while keeping at least two removal spells up -- or just one if they deterministically cannot kill you. Be patient. Don't be greedy.

* Black: Prioritise getting an enchantment down and playing Koth to get more cards in hand

* Blue/white control: Feels like a 50/50 matchup. You have 14 enchantments + planeswalkers. Just keep slamming them and eventually one will stick. Don't attack with the Duelist unless they are completely tapped down, all it does is turn on their smites and not-on-my-watch. And the lifegain can matter if it comes down to a race against Beza.

* Red/White tokens, anything with Atraxa: This is a really bad matchup. All you can do is go for the fastest possible lethal (usually levelling up Talent or casting Virtue of Courage) and hope they don't have enchantment removal. They usually do.
