Overview
So with THB here, we've got some new toys to play with. Well, I'll admit I'm a bit of a sucker for Doom Foretold
and try to put it even where it may not belong. However, with the likes of our newest best friend Nightmare Shepherd
, we now have some interesting interactions to explore and the power level of this beloved archetype of mine has considerably risen since Eldraine hit. And, boy, is this fun to play.
Discard core
For the discard package, we have the usual suspects: Yarok's Fenlurker
, Burglar Rat
, Basilica Bell-Haunt
, alongside with our favorite Charming Prince
for recursion and some very important draw fixing in the early game.
Dying with style
The trick is having these guys die while Nightmare Shepherd is in the battlefield for retriggering their enter-the-battlefield discard effects. The rest of the deck assures they can die usefully by also capitalizing in Midnight Reaper
's effect, or by serving as fodder for Doom Foretold, or even as a sacrifice for Cavalier of Night
's ETB effect. Even when the situation might seem dire, we can reset the board with Kaya's Wrath
and potentialy having a mass retriggering of ETB effects.
Kaya is there to kill that unbearably annoying cat-oven.
I suppose the sideboard is pretty standard for the Eldraine meta. Do not forget to side Kaya. I'm thinking about Hushbringer
as an option. Still not sure, though.
