As with most Fires of Invention
decks, Mardu Fires is built around controlling your opponent while gaining as much card advantage as possible, and spending your unused mana on activated abilities to close the game out.
The real engine of this deck is Theater of Horrors
with Ill-Gotten Inheritance
ideally, or Stormfist Crusader
. Once these cards are in play, you're basically drawing 2 or more cards each turn, while dealing damage passively to your opponent. This helps you draw into answers for any board problems you might be facing, and can eventually close out the game by activating Ill-Gotten Inheritance.
Ideal opening hands have Fires and enough land and/or scry to safely expect to play it on curve. It will also have Theater of Horrors and a board wipe. When you get your engine online, you're near golden so long as you don't draw flat. Have fun!
