Description

So this is a bit of a weird one, but it is building off a 5-0 list I saw recently trying to use Birth of Meletis and Pirate's Pillage as ways to play Indomitable Creativity and win the game with it. I've tweaked the list to make it Jeskai for a number of reasons. First, I decided I like the combo of Sage of the Falls and The Locust God better than what the original list I found was playing, which was a 4 creature combo. Sage of the Falls and The Locust God form a 2 card combo that when they get on the board can really easily just win the game on the spot. Sage loots every time a non-human creature enters the battlefield, and The Locust God makes an instect every time you draw a card, so looting off Sage generates a token which makes an insect and repeats the loop. Sage is a may trigger, so you can choose to stop looting once you've made about 40 or so haste tokens and then immediately attack with them to win. The way we generate tokens that can be sacrificed for Indomitable Creativity is through Birth of Meletis, Pirate's Pillage, Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis, and lastly Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. Elspeth and Gideon can help give us another win condition if we need to grind our opponents out some rather than combo kill them.

My reasons for going Jeskai over just straight Boros which the original list I saw was doing were that I wanted to actually be able to cast Sage of the Falls and The Locust God in the situations where I unfortunately draw one or the other of my combo pieces, and to have access to cards like Thirst for Meaning, Omen of the Sea, and Teferi, Time Raveler. Thirst for Meaning and Omen of the Sea are both great ways to draw into our Indomitable Creativity, which is the most important of our combo pieces, and also the Thirst combos well with Birth of Meletis which is in the deck as part of the combo with Creativity as well. Teferi, Time Raveler does a good job of protecting our combo which otherwise might struggle against interaction and counterspells, so perhaps we will have a better time against decks like UW Control. Adding blue to the deck also gives us sideboard counterspells to help combat the combo decks some, though I expect that the combo decks will both be miserable matchups for this deck as it is largely just a slower combo deck that folds harder to interaction like Thoughtseize which Inverter will throw at us. If we are able to dodge serious interaction we have a chance of killing Inverter the turn after they play their Inverter of Truth, but the likelihood is we won't have an Indomitable Creativity because our opponent is going to take it. This is why we are heavy on Gideon of the Trials, with one in the main and the full 3 other copies in the sideboard, because we really just need to slow Inverter down some at the same time that they slow us down. I personally would not board in Rest in Peace against Inverter because I think that would be overboarding ultimately; if you get stuck with a hand of lots of Gideon and RIP you could lose to a Pack Rat for instance, so make sure you still have your combo to win with.
