Learn more Download For WindowsI REALLY REALLY HATE MERFOLK.
So getting bored with the meta, I decided to make a deck that aggros in the same way merfolk does, but also can provide some mid range damage dealers if the game runs long.
The premise is simple: Relentless Raptor, Sky Terror and using Roc Charger when available to beat the opponent into submission.
Radiant Destiny will eventually provide Vigilance, and this helps tremendously in conjunction with Territorial Hammerskull, and much needed +1/+1s.
Bonus: Territorial Hammerskull and Kinjalli's Sunwing provide a form of control so Relentless Raptor, Sky Terror,Roc Charger can attack directly, and also can be used with Seal Away to get rid of the bigger creatures, or utility creatures like Merfolk Mistbinder that the opponent will never attack with.
Sure Strike is for surprises.
Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice is crucial for making the most out of Relentless Raptor, and Sky Terror in the case you do not have vigilance from Radiant Destiny, along with some bonus damage.
The Wincon is quite fun: I often use Chance for Glory and Response // Resurgence when the opponent is around 10 life, and win. If you attack with Charging Tuskodon in combo with a Sure Strike, and have Radiant out, you are almost guaranteed a win.
Some Additional things:
Arcane Encyclopedia is used, and I'm not a total fan of it, but it has helped GREATLY with long games, esp when landlocked.
Gird for Battle, Maximize Velocity is interesting in games where you want to keep mana costs low and you want to hit hard and fast.
Path of Mettle // Metzali, Tower of Triumph has helped me slow burn or revenge kill, and also has provided a clear path to +3 cards with Risk Factor.
Karn, Scion of Urza is just for drawing purposes, it helps as much as Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants. If you swap out for some things on the sideboard, I would suggest Karn, but remember, the overall point is winning in less than 7 turns.
I have experimented with Huatli, Dinosaur Knight, but its only useful if games run long, and once again, you dont want that to happen.
Why is Settle the Wreckage in sideboard?
Well, that is because any seasoned player can see it coming a million miles away, and will opt to paper cut you to death than attack with all. So Cleansing Nova is the only way to go.
Cheers.
