Learn more Download For WindowsKiln Fiend is here and it has the potential to be pretty big in this format. Using Maximize Velocity, you can make it a 5/3 attacker out of nowhere on turn 3. Throw in Infuriate, Barge In for trample, and some cheap burn spells like Shock and a couple Heartfire to pump it while also dealing direct damage, and you can burn your opponent down pretty quick. Samut's Sprint is a considerable replacement for Maximize Velocity if you don't own it, but I like the recursion provided be the jump-start mechanic, which makes use of excess land draws later in the game.
Rimrock Knight being a sort of two-in-one spell is great at common rarity. Giving a creature +2/+0 and then having a 3/1 attacker is pretty great value. Somewhat similarly, the casting flexibility of Skewer the Critics makes it a pretty obvious inclusion in this deck, along with some of the other classic RDW commons from the previous standard format like Ghitu Lavarunner, Fanatical Firebrand, and Viashino Pyromancer.
Since it hasn't started as of the time I am making this deck, I am not sure what the meta for this event will look like exactly, but this seems to have some potential at the very least. If you decide to play this, or a variant of it, let me know how it goes and what you think.
Important note: Remember that Barge In is target attacking creature, so don't plan to use it defensively, or you will be sad.
Side note: I did consider Gravitic Punch, but I think keeping the curve lower is better. However, this could be a strong inclusion considering Kiln Fiend would get the +3/+0 buff before the damage is dealt on top of whatever its power is already at, assuming you target Kiln Fiend with it. Other considerations for cheap pump spells include the aforementioned Samut's Sprint, Fervent Strike, Storm Strike, Run Amok, and Sure Strike. This deck could also make good use of a Burning Prophet or Fire Urchin on the creature side, with Burning Prophet's scry effect being a little better than Fire Urchin's trample.
