Description

Festering Ambitions

A mostly Amonkhet themed deck that puts -1/-1 Counter on creatures to get things moving, creating tokens as you go. This is an explorer updated version of an old deck I ran from historic, but had to drop some powerful cards like Carnifex Demonimage and Yawgmoth, Thran Physicianimage the latter of which really hurt, but was able to add a few things to make up for the lost.

The Creatures:

Festering Mummyimage is a great 1 drop to start things off with getting the -1/-1 trigger going, and being expendable comes in handy, especially when combo with our next card

Exemplar of Strengthimage is a powerful card with a “drawback” that really work to our advantage in this deck triggering multiple abilities in our deck, and if done right, you can place them all on an expendable creature to have a 4/4 out for really good cost.

Hapatra, Vizier of Poisonsimage is one of the two token engines for the deck, as well as a great creature to get cheap hits in with when possible, most the time though just hold her back to build up the snake army.

Obelisk Spiderimage is a fun creature to block with and gets us some life gain to help out, the opponent loosing life is not too bad either.

Ammit Eternalimage has great synergy with the nest of Scarabs, and lets us quickly outnumber out opponents boards, as well as get a possible 5/5 out into play.

The Spells:

Cut Downimage is useful and stacks really well with the -1/-1 counters to make the bigger creature qualify for the execution.

Agadeem's Awakeningimage is something I threw in place of a swamp as we run a pretty decent curve for creatures here, so late game can bring a few back to make things interesting.

The Other Stuff:

Trial of Ambitionimage keeps coming back around in combination with out next card, and great source to make your opponent sacrifice a creature, cheap too.

Cartouche of Ambitionimage another source for -1/-1 counters and life gain as well, works great on the Exemplar of Strengthimage.

Nest of Scarabsimage the second of our token engine in the deck, can create some fun situations

Binding the Old Godsimage what’s not to love about this card, remove a permanent, fetches you a land and can give your creatures death touch

Ifnir Deadlandsimage another source for the -1/-1 triggers, worth pointing out

The Gameplan:

Get the Counters going and get some tokens into play, the more creature you get out the better you can defend your lifepoints. It lost a little something on the Historic transfer, so stay tune for updates as I tweak it to get it more into shape.
