Learn more Download For WindowsYou thought elementals were dead? Guess what? They are not. Here is my updated Domri Elementals v2.1 Anti-Oko
Ever seen an Temur elemental deck? They ramp fast, go wide, and then smash you with a bunch of 1 power elementals. What if I told you that you dont have to wait until you deck yourself before attacking with a bunch of power 1s, but instead can get all the ramp and combo you want and ALSO attack and end the game with a bunch of power 3s by turn 4. You doubt it? Just read on!
Now that the meta has settled (and beome a 3/3 elk) it has become very clear that we have to have anti-elk measures.
So without future adieu, here we go!
Sacrifice elementals with Neoform to get a fast Scampering Scorcher, buff the attacking elementals with Creeping Trailblazer and Domri, Anarch of Bolas, get the sacrificed elemementals back with Thunderkin Awakener and trigger Risen Reef. Amazing!
+ Fast ramp
+ Fast kills, from seemingly out of nowhere
+ Lots of 2-card combos
+ Satisfying to play
Arboreal Grazer -> Healer of the Glade
Grazer was a dead draw most of the time, and Healer provides elemental synergies, gives life and is a good body that can attack.
Chandra's Triumph -> Domri's Ambush
Putting a +1/+1 counter on a Thunderkin Awakener has never felt better.
NEW -> Once Upon a Time
Mana fixing and fetching a creature in times of dire need. To make space I removed some of the slower creatures and stream-lined the attackers. This also helps us increase our pressure against Oko decks.
Healer of the Glade - Early attacker or defender. Neoform fodder. You can sacrifice it to get a +1/+1 Thunderkin Awakener, attack with it, gain the Healer back and heal for 3 life.
Leafkin Druid - Ramp and Neoform fodder.
Thunderkin Awakener - Return all the awesome elementals from the graveyard. Buff with Neoform or Omnath, Locus of the Roil to be able to bring back Creeping Trailblazer.
Scampering Scorcher - The core card of the deck. Creates tokens, gives all elementals haste (!), triggers Risen Reef multiple time, and is overall just a pain in the neck for your opponents.
Creeping Trailblazer - Buffs all elementals and turns into a huge threat when unchecked. Also nice to pump it up and then use it to fight with Domri. Note: Can't be brought back with Thunderkin Awakener by default.
Risen Reef - Insance ramp, the reason elementals are a top choice to play. Very nice to get the triple trigger from Scampering Scorcher.
Omnath, Locus of the Roil - Top-end elemental, this bad boy deals a lot of damage, can buff you elementals and draws cards later on.
Cloudkin Seer - Fooder for Neoform to get Scampering Scorcher, also draws a card and bypasses defenses in some cases.
Overgrowth Elemental - Lifegain in desperate situations. Puts counter on Thunderkin Awakener so you can get back Creeping Trailblazer.
Neoform - A match made in hell with Thunderkin Awakener. I recommend the following sacrifice pairings:
Arboreal Grazer -> Thunderkin Awakener or Creeping Trailblazer
Cloudkin Seer or Overgrowth Elemental -> Scampering Scorcher or Omnath, Locus of the Roil
Leafkin Druid -> Risen Reef or Overgrowth Elemental (when you need to get back a Creeping Trailblazer).
Scampering Scorcher -> Cavalier of Thorns
Cavalier of Thorns - The "best" mythic elemental. Powers Thunderkin Awakener and gets back important stuff. Single copy as endpoint for the Neoform engine. Also nice against flyers and as blocker. Swap with chandra when needed during sideboarding.
Domri, Anarch of Bolas - What is better than 2/1 elementals? 3/1 elementals! Also ramp and anti-counter measures. Awesome!
Chandra, Acolyte of Flame - Experimental. Creates tokens and allows re-cast of spells in graveyard. Especially nice for an emergency Neoform.
Chandra, Awakened Inferno - Waifu Nightmore for control decks, clears the board of non-elementals, applies more pressure
Negate - Filler. Double copy in the main-deck, good in almost any matchup. Especially good to prevent an early Oko.
Domri's Ambush - Filler. This allows us to deal with strong creatures or planeswalkers and often ist a 2-for-1 or even a 3-for-1 when used to buff Thunderkin Awakener
Green > Red > Blue.
Green is needed for the fast ramp, red for dealing damage, blue for some combo pieces. The Fabled Passage solves some problem with blue elementals and Once Upon a Time solves the rest. You should be able to find the missing blue mana source by the time you need it for Neoform.
Veil of Summer - A supreme card. It is just sooo good. And fun. Dont look at my hand! Dont counter my spells! Dont bounce my creatures!
Flame Sweep - Yeah, you didnt expext that one, right? But we shut down turtle mana dorks, clear the board of zombie tokens (no longer necessary) and can still easily rebuild our side thanks to Thunderkin Awakener.
Chandra's Triumph - When you need to disrupt the enemy more.
Return to Nature - I think we will see a lot more artifacts/enchantments and graveyard matters cards. And this hits all of them.
Mystical Dispute - Anti-Oko measure. Good against all kinds of blue stuff.
Neoform - Filler. I was not sure about going down to two copys in the main deck, but so far it has worked out.
Sorcerous Spyglass - That is a nice oven you have there. Would be a shame if it suddenly stopped working. Note: If they use Angrath's Rampage you counter with Veil. Veil is stronger.
I dont see Oko as that oppessive of a matchup. Yes, it is hard, it is annoying and it is unfair, but we got a chance.
We run aggro, so we are able to pressure an early Oko. If we get a 2 power elemental and maybe a Domri's Ambush we can kill the first elk and then hit Oko.
If we dont have the early pressure, we have to overcome him by going wide or going strong. Scampering Scorcher can go wide, bypassing defenses and, when paired with a buff effect, kill Oko from out of nowhere. Omnath, Locus of the Roil on the other hand can come down after we amassed a bunch of elementals and deal lots of direct damage to Oko.
All our creatures are disposable (and recyclable), so they can get turned into elks for all we care. And we even can put counters on our elks, so they outclass their elks!
On the high-end spectrum they run counters and veil and we run counters and veil. So we are evenly matched. The only card I really fear is Mass Manipulation, be prepared for it. Wicked Wolf can be chumped (and shut down with Sorcerous Spyglass), and Questing Beast can also be chumped.
When we are in the backseat it is all about surviving and getting our engine running again. Risen Reef, Scampering Scorcher and Thunderkin Awakener are absolute surprise factors that can refill your board and hand. We will see most of the cards in our deck, so if your engine is running, plan for the exact sequence of elementals you want to drop.
Last but not least, I would advise to board out the big Cavalier of Thorns. This is the one card that really hurts when it becomes an elk.
Thanks for reading and I hope you have as much fun as I have with this deck. I played it the whole previous and current season and it hasn't let me down so far.
Artisanal crafted, organic decks that will bring joy to everyone.
