Description

Hello again.

Well some bad news and some good news.  Let's get the bad out of the way first.  The new laptop is fried.  Motherboard went out after only having it for a day.  So that's an ordeal for tomorrow.  Also not so bad, I said I would make a deck with a lower overall curve, and while I did, it's not that much lower.

The good?

This deck absolutely demolishes people.  I'm playing best of 3.  It's not just 8 and 0 so far in platinum, it's only lost one round period.

Let's briefly discuss the card selection:

Bonecrusher: great for small threat removal and end game face with a solid body.

Destiny Spinner:  2/3 for 2 that blocks counterspells against your creatures.

Champion:  Gets in fast in the beginning, equips shadowspear for free, pairs up great with more.  First strike is notable especially with colossus and rimrock's adventure on board.

Rhonas:  Explosion in a box.  You don't want to be on the other end of this going off with a crowded board.  That death touch makes embercleave awful nice too.

spellbreaker: versatile body

questing beast:  walls of text on cards are generally a good sign.

rimrock: went back and forth a bit between this and embereth knight.  Both take advantage of champion knight buffs.  embereth offers artifact removal, rimrock hits harder and adventures a small buff.  Advantage rimrock imo.  Cat ovens are annoying and take forever to defeat but they aren't very effective as long as you control the lifegain and keep the 3/3 sac damage fellow at bay.

collision // Colossus : take out sky threats or get a large buff and trample.  Pairing this with a weaponized swing is juicy.

embercleave:  I personally call this card "Concede".  That seems to happen a lot if this actually hits the ground.  Watch counterspell decks mana.

Shadowspear: a bit of extra damage and some healing to keep you in the game.  You definitely wanna see this in a mirror or vs mono red.  Oh and supposedly it lets you kill indestructables.  Haven't faced a heliod with one yet.

Kan's standard Gruul Land Package(tm):  I was concerned I would have trouble with the 1 drops on turn one but it's been working out.

Domri: Pumps everything on your board, ramps, removal.

Sideboard

Ceratops: azorius loves it.  Deals with dream trawler and is harder than most creatures to get rid of.

lava coil:  removes most threats.  Sideboard in against rakdos and mono red or mirror or mono black.

return to nature:  Probably gonna go back to repeal.  Cat oven is annoying but they always seem to have a replacement anyway.  Is it just me or does arena guarantee 3 ovens in the top 15 cards of every cat oven deck?

tibalt: specifically for mono white, but a good step in any deck gaining life.  We don't like that.  We are on a timeline.  Longer the match goes, more likely we are to lose.  We wanna be wrapping up before someone hits agent of trechery territory.

Good luck!  Hope you win a lot of games.  Being on my old computer, I'm nervous to push it more on the ladder right now, especially after getting close to tier 1 after dropping to the beginning of 4th after failed experiments.  Win one for the ol' gipper!
