MTG Arena Release date confirmed

andreliverod September 5, 2019 2 min

One year has passed since the beginning of the Open Beta. Magic The Gathering Arena is set to go live on September 26th.

With the launch of the full version of MTG Arena is the new Throne of Eldraine set, featured in the trailer above. This will include a bunch of new cards and at the same time rotate out the four sets: Ixalan, Rivals of Ixalan, Dominaria, and Core Set 2019. That is more than 1000 cards rotating out of Standard which causes a huge shakeup to the meta.

Playing at the beginning of a big card rotation is always fun, Wizards is also giving players methods to start building their collection with an early event in which you can test out new cards in a brand new format coming later this fall; Brawl.

Eldraine Courtside brawl gives you access to an event with Preconstructed decks you select to play against other players. Each win will earn you XP and playsets of new Eldraine cards that you can use when the new set is released. There is no punishment for losing, so keep on playing until you get all 6 wins. More information on Brawl can be found here.

Event Start: September 4th, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. PT (16:30 UTC)
Entry Format: 1v1 Brawl, Pre-constructed Decks
Entry Cost: No entry fee!

  • 1 Win: 4x Heraldic Banner and 1,000 XP
  • 2 WIns: 4x Syr Konrad, the Grim
  • 3 Wins: 4x Faerie Vandal
  • 4 Wins: 4x Savvy Hunter
  • 5 Wins: 4x Inspiring Veteran

Is the game ready?

While we are nearing the release of the full MTG Arena game, there are still ways to go with the client. It still has some very rough edges, and per today in the Open Beta 5th September, we still have no friendslist or draft pods with friends.

Wizards are prioritizing a release that goes hand in hand with a big rotation, as the next one will be another year of waiting. Let us hope they can follow up with more game client functionality shorty after the full release.
