Traditional Alchemy - Esper Control Bo3
Control
I failed miserably with UW Control because of how fast aggro decks were and also because of the lack of graveyard hate. Orzhov Control lost too frequently against the dimir control matchup. Dimir control was pretty nice, but white has some excellent removal in purge/doomskar/divine smite.
So we arrived at Esper. The tools to shut down any aggro deck that comes at you, the ability to sideboard against the control/graveyard recursion matchups.
- Personally didn't have much success with divine purge more than a few times. Could probably sub this out with fateful absence. Could probably do without siphon insight too, but this card is one of my personal favorites at grabbing their holy grail card once in a while. You can also do away w/ dread fugue for better removal.
- Discover the formula vs. memory deluge vs. behold the muiltiverse - You have to wait longer with DtF but the payoffs in how much mana I saved over course of game is overwhelming.
- Celestus and Edgar are lifegain tools. I like them > Sunset Revelry.
- With the exception of the board sweepers and lier, you need instant speed removal in this metagame. It's so much faster than regular standard.
Matchups:
UW Aggro, RDW, Mono G, Mono W - A-Tier
Rakdos, Jund, Orzhov, pretty much anything that runs black - S-Tier. After sideboard, there is no way you lose.
Dimir Control / UW Control - Mix N Match (B-A tier). This deck will run UW over more than dimir.
4 Color Omnath / Izzet Control - A Tier. If you get hullbreaker or Lier down, they're done.
