Disclaimer: this is a janky deck and mostly a first prototype of what could be a really nice archetype people are sleeping on. It DOES still need work and I'll improve it in the future, but I feel it reached a point where it can be at least shared to start spreading the news that Izzet artifacts in standard is officially a thing.
The deck in its current form lacks removal (aside from graveyard hate), but the engine is surpisingly effective and resilient. I suspect the main issue is that it's trying to do two things at the same time that belong to different archetypes - once the two are separated and the deck is simplified, there should be enough room for removal and maybe it could start becoming competitive. Feel free to experiment in that regard.
How it works:
- Novelist makes every treasure tap for 2 mana, same goes for almost every artifact in the deck. In particular, sacrificing clues effectively costs 1;
- Gadgeteer creates clue tokens really easily in this deck. Also, the cost is reduced to 1 which means that:
- When you have the 2 cards together on the battlefield, you can basically cycle almost your whole library in one single turn.
- Since Novelist can easily gain 15/20 power in a single turn, I felt it was worth adding a single Goro Goro to give your creatures haste and close the game before the opponent has a window to answer the board. Both Goro Goro and Forensic Researcher are intended to be used for their ability only through the cauldron.
As a secondary theme, you have Reckless Lackey + Training Grounds (plus Cauldron to generalize the ability). With Training Grounds the ability costs 1, and since the ability creates a treasure, once again, you can cantrip your creatures for free. The giant grants almost the same effect, except you can sacrifice literally the rest of your deck: lands and artifacts. Yes, potentially you could destroy your whole board if you wish so.
Remember when I said this deck wants to do too many things at once? I suspect the whole secondary theme explained above belongs to a different deck, that deserves its own version and it's probably even more explosive in the right shell. I haven't tested this hypothesis yet but don't worry, it's on the list.
Meanwhile, as always, enjoy!
