Modern - Lord of the Ring's Control

Here is the control deck built around The One Ring, Bowmasters, and a few other LOTR cards.

The Deck

I like to break control decks down into a few categories. So, let's start with controlling the board.

Control Elements

I did a lot of testing to get the numbers right here. We have a total of 10 counterspells, which are Counterspellimage, Reprieveimage, Force of Negationimage, and Saruman's Trickeryimage. All of these help us deal with threats before they become a problem and keep you in control of the game.

That said, some things will resolve, and you'll want to deal with those as well. So, we have a total of 16 removal spells/board wipes. I know that sounds like a lot, but most also do other things, so it works out. For example, Solitudeimage and Subtely can both remove opposing threats and be excellent attackers for you. Plus, Otawara, Soaring Cityimage and Teferi, Time Ravelerimage can bounce things and do much more.

Now, onto the harder removal. We also have several copies of Path to Exileimage and two Supreme Verdictimage, just in case things get out of hand. Overall, you should have no problem controlling the game. Now, how are we going to win? I'm glad you asked.

Win-Cons

As mentioned, Solitudeimage and Subtely are great attackers. And given how much removal you have, you'll have no problem getting in for damage. However, we also have Faramir, Prince of Ithilienimage. If your opponents didn't attack you, you draw a card. That's good. On the other hand, if they did attack you, you make three 1/1's. I found this great at slowing down aggro and adding some power and toughness to your side of the board.

We also have four copies of Orcish Bowmastersimage, which can help control (and end) games, as you know. And finally, a complete playset of The One Ringimage ties all of this together.

Conclusion

The description for this one was pretty simple... So, I wanted to add that it played really well in testing. Just play your counters as best you can, and the rest falls into the place. The One Ring is fantastic here, but there's no way to gain life. Therefore, you will need to watch how much damage you take from the ring sometimes. That said, unless your opponent is an excellent player with a phenomenal deck AND lucky, this will crush, no questions asked.
