The essence of this deck revolves around circumventing counter spells; almost every card within it possesses the capability to bypass counter spells, ensuring you can proceed with your strategies. This deck was conceived in response to the increasing prevalence of pure counter spell decks, offering a solution to the love-hate relationship many of us share with the blue faction in the game of Magic.
The Creatures:
Reinforced Ronin is a cost-effective creature that can seize an opportunity to strike when the situation is favorable, or be channeled to draw a card.
Lightning Mare delivers substantial damage when it manages to bypass defenses, and its pumping ability proves to be invaluable, especially as an effective counter to blue cards.
Twinshot Sniper primarily serves the channeling aspect of the deck, but deploying it as a creature is beneficial, provided you're confident it will safely enter play. While it's a bit expensive for the creature's side, it boasts several advantageous features.
Inferno of the Star Mounts holds the honor of being the deck's namesake for good reason; this dragon demands swift attention from your opponent, as its presence can pose a significant threat.
The Spells:
Banefire serves as a win condition for the deck. If you can accumulate sufficient mana, it will pierce through defenses and inflict significant damage.
Lithomantic Barrage is a modest ability that allows you to eliminate troublesome creatures or weaken a vulnerable planeswalker. However, it offers a substantial advantage when the target is blue or white.
Magic Missile permits you to distribute your burn across three different targets or focus it all on a single objective.
The Other Stuff:
The Irencrag can be countered, but it's not catastrophic if it doesn't resolve. While the mana acceleration it provides is beneficial, our strategy won't be severely impacted if it doesn't make it to the battlefield. However, if it does, it gives us a strong start.
Blood Sun is another card that can be countered, but like our previous card, it's not mission-critical. Playing it works exceptionally well with our Lotus Fields and provides us with a card in hand. The drawback is that it deactivates our Den of the Bugbear, so keep that in mind.
Chandra, Awakened Inferno is another key card in the deck that your opponents will want to deal with. The objective here is to get those emblems going, as they will steadily erode your opponent's life total.
The Gameplan:
Heavy counter spell decks should prove relatively straightforward. However, the deck's main challenges arise when facing lifegain and aggressive decks. Against aggro, your success varies based on their specific strategies. It's crucial to seize opportunities to inflict damage and establish your mana base. Chandra's ability can serve as a board-clearing tool in case things spiral out of control. Gradually whittle down your opponent's life total, preparing for the decisive strike delivered through a well-timed Banefire.
