Commander - Thicc Boi Tribal
Midrange Jank
This deck, called 'Thicc Boi Tribal", is an aggro/midrange deck centered heavily around its Commander's activated ability.
The optimal play is using the heavy ramp like Explosive Vegetation
, Skyshroud Claim
, Harrow
, etc, to get Mayael out, either activate her right away with Swiftfoot Boots
or on the next turn. Cheat out a few big boys and start focusing on one enemy.
Since aggro is (generally) bad in Commander you need to pick one enemy and keep the pressure on them. Often it's a good idea to "spread the love" to diffuse heat generated by your beefy titan creatures, but by knocking someone out you're lowering the chances of getting wiped out.
There's a small alternate win-con in Mayael's Aria
. This allows you to develop counters on your creatures over time, but it's more useful as a way to empower a board to swing at your opponents, rather than actually getting to 20 power and winning the game.
One really spicy play I managed: 9 untapped lands and Mayael, the Anima in play. Cast Regal Behemoth
from my hand, I become the Monarch and my lands tap for double mana. Tapping 3 lands for 6 mana I activate Mayael and put Blazing Archon
from my library onto the battlefield. I draw a card at the end of my turn because I'm the Monarch but the Archon prevents anyone from swinging at me and stealing the Monarchy. BIG BRAIN PLAYS. (It's really edge case/lucky, even though Archon didn't stay around for much longer, I stayed the Monarch for the rest of that game).
